On Saturday, we butchered 35 meat chickens in 3 1/2  hours!! It was a lot of fun…but a little cold.    Daddy took care of the heads, wings and legs. Jessie, Lyssa and Annie skinned them and Suzanna and Cassie gutted them. At the end we all cut up the pieces and bagged them. Bekah and Charissa were our photographers!!    Here are a few pictures…

Bantams typically weigh less than 2 pounds when full grown. Just like ordering anything online there are pros and cons to ordering baby chicks online. Pros of buying baby chicks in Grand Marsh Wisconsin * Big Selection - If you are wanting a large variety of different chicken breeds and egg colors, you will find the best selection at an online hatchery. * Both Bantams and full sized chickens available * You get to choose what sex you want. Quantity - you must order a certain number of chicks. Typically hatcheries will require you buy a minimum of 25 chicks at a time. The number is necessary for the chicks survival during shipping. All 25 chicks are put in one small box without heat. They are crowded in the box and produce enough body heat to arrive in good shape. * The wait - If you choose to buy chicks from a feed store you will have them the same day but if you choose to go with a hatchery you have to wait until they are ready to ship and then wait for the chicks to arrive. Ordering baby chicks online in Grand Marsh Wisconsin is easy and has always been a very pleasant experience of me. It can be a little frustrating waiting for the chicks but it's so worth the wait. When the post office calls and you hear all those little "cheeps" or "chirps" in the background you'll know the wait was worth it! How to Care for your new baby chickens in Grand Marsh, Wisconsin Baby chicks are quite cute and also tough to stand up to, however it's finest to prepare for their arrival prior to you obtain them. Prepare first by compiling not only the correct products, however additionally the appropriate understanding to care for them. Raising baby chicks is reasonably straightforward, you just need to provide them with the following: A tidy as well as cozy environment Plenty of food and water Focus and also love Environment Your environment could be an easy box, aquarium, cat provider, or guinea pig cage. Line it with old towels as well as coverings (with no loosened strings!) to begin, and also after a couple of weeks make use of straw over paper. Note: Avoid utilizing just paper or other slipper surfaces-- or your chicks legs could expand malformed. You additionally need something to dish out food and water in, such as a chicken feeder and also water dish from the feed store, or a pickle container lid for food and a pet dog bird water dispenser from a pet store. Likewise, as the chicks grow older you can present a perch right into the environment to get them trained on setting down. Warmth To keep your chicks heat you have to offer them with a warmth source. This can be as simple as a 100 watt light bulb in a reflective clamp style light from an equipment store, or an infrared reptile heat bulb likewise function very well (my recommendation). Chicks require this heat 24/7 up until their downy fluff is replaced with feathers (which could occupy to 2 months). The recently hatched require a temperature between 90 and 100 levels, and every week this could be reduced by about 5 levels approximately. The heat resource must be on merely one side of the cage to permit chicks a variety of temperature levels. The chicks are your ideal thermostat- if they are concealing in the contrary corner of your heat light, you need to reduce the temperature level. If they are smothering each various other under the heat (not simply cuddling), you need to add some warmth. Housekeeping Tidiness is crucial and it maintains your chicks healthy. Make certain to transform the bedding frequently and also constantly give tidy food and water Food and also water. Chicks grow quite quickly which calls for plenty of clean food as well as water. Supply enough at all times as well as examine typically to avoid thirsty and also starving chicks. Chick food is different compared to grown-up chicken food, and it is available in both medicated and also non-medicated ranges. Feed chick food for the initial two months, then switch to a grower food (~ 17 % healthy protein) for another 2 months, then to a somewhat lower healthy protein feed or a layer feed (if you have levels). Soil Some chicks prefer to obtain a running start on taking dirt baths, while others won't take up that task till they are older. If you have the room in your chick enclosure, introduce a tray of sand or dust for them to bathe in. Interest and love There are a couple of advantages to spending quality time with your chicks. Firstly, they will most likely bond with you and also not run away as grownups. Second, if you examine your chicks daily and also see their actions, you can capture ailment or various other troubles previously. Watch out for hissing, hopping, or various other unhealthy indications. Be sure to additionally consider their poop, as looseness of the bowels could bring about matted feathers and also blocked cloaca. Lastly, it is very important to look out for social concerns, such as the littlest chick getting badgered. Vacant nest syndrome So your chicks are currently fully feathered and its time for them to leave the security of your home and also move outside right into a coop. Have a look at our section on chicken coops to find out more about coops and proper cage environments.
