Meet Beryl and Sylvia.

Beryl is a Black Rock and Sylvia (the more silvery one of the two) is a Speckeldy.

I only have one photo so far because the seemed a bit shy so I just left the with food and water to settle in.

I am so happy we have chickens again and I am going to encourage Boo to go and collect the eggs.

How to Care for your new baby chickens in Core, West Virginia Baby chicks are quite adorable as well as difficult to stand up to, yet it's ideal to plan for their arrival before you get them. Prepare first by collecting not just the appropriate products, however likewise the correct knowledge to take care of them. Raising baby chicks is relatively simple, you merely have to offer them with the following: A clean and warm and comfortable environment Lots of food as well as water Interest and love Habitat Your habitat could be a straightforward box, aquarium, feline service provider, or guinea pig cage. Line it with old towels as well as coverings (without loose strings!) to begin, as well as after a couple of weeks utilize straw over paper. Keep in mind: Avoid making use of only paper or other slipper surfaces-- or your chicks legs can expand malformed. You likewise require something to dish out food and water in, such as a chicken feeder as well as water dish from the feed shop, or a pickle jar cover for food as well as an animal bird water dispenser from an animal shop. Also, as the chicks age you could present a perch into the habitat to obtain them trained on perching. Warmth To keep your chicks warm you should offer them with a heat resource. This could be as easy as a 100 watt light bulb in a reflective clamp style lamp from a hardware store, or an infrared reptile warmth bulb likewise function effectively (my referral). Chicks need this heat 24/7 until their downy fluff is replaced with feathers (which can occupy to two months). The freshly hatched out require a temperature level in between 90 as well as 100 degrees, and each week this could be decreased by around 5 degrees or so. The heat resource ought to be on merely one side of the cage to enable chicks a variety of temperature levels. The chicks are your finest thermostat- if they are concealing in the opposite edge of your warmth light, you should lower the temperature. If they are surrounding each various other under the warmth (not just snuggling), you have to add some warmth. House cleaning Cleanliness is crucial as well as it maintains your chicks healthy. Be sure to transform the bed linen usually as well as always offer clean food as well as water Food and also water. Chicks grow extremely quickly which needs a lot of tidy food and water. Offer sufficient whatsoever times as well as inspect usually to stop parched and also hungry chicks. Chick food is various than adult chicken food, and also it can be found in both medicated and non-medicated ranges. Feed chick food for the initial two months, then switch over to a raiser food (~ 17 % healthy protein) for an additional 2 months, then to a slightly lower protein feed or a layer feed (if you have layers). Dirt Some chicks prefer to get a running start on taking filth bathrooms, while others will not take up that activity until they are older. If you have the space in your chick unit, present a tray of sand or filth for them to wash in. Focus and love There are a couple of benefits to spending quality time with your chicks. To start with, they will more than likely bond with you and not run away as adults. Second, if you analyze your chicks daily as well as watch their habits, you could capture ailment or various other issues previously. Keep an eye out for wheezing, limping, or other unhealthy signs. Make sure to also look at their poop, as looseness of the bowels can cause matted feathers and obstructed cloaca. Finally, it is necessary to look out for social concerns, such as the tiniest chick obtaining teased. Empty nest syndrome So your chicks are now fully feathery as well as its time for them to leave the security of your home and also move outside into a cage.
