On Saturday, we butchered 35 meat chickens in 3 1/2  hours!! It was a lot of fun…but a little cold.    Daddy took care of the heads, wings and legs. Jessie, Lyssa and Annie skinned them and Suzanna and Cassie gutted them. At the end we all cut up the pieces and bagged them. Bekah and Charissa were our photographers!!    Here are a few pictures…

Quantity - you must order a certain number of chicks. Typically hatcheries will require you buy a minimum of 25 chicks at a time. The number is necessary for the chicks survival during shipping. All 25 chicks are put in one small box without heat. They are crowded in the box and produce enough body heat to arrive in good shape. * The wait - If you choose to buy chicks from a feed store you will have them the same day but if you choose to go with a hatchery you have to wait until they are ready to ship and then wait for the chicks to arrive. Ordering baby chicks online in Warden Washington is easy and has always been a very pleasant experience of me. It can be a little frustrating waiting for the chicks but it's so worth the wait. When the post office calls and you hear all those little "cheeps" or "chirps" in the background you'll know the wait was worth it! How to Care for your new baby chickens in Warden, Washington Baby chicks are very charming and hard to resist, however it's best to prepare for their arrival before you obtain them. Prepare first by compiling not only the right materials, but likewise the appropriate expertise to take care of them. Raising baby chicks is relatively easy, you merely need to give them with the following: A clean as well as cozy habitat Plenty of food and water Interest and also love Environment Your habitat could be a simple box, fish tank, feline carrier, or guinea porker cage. Line it with old towels as well as blankets (without any loose strings!) to start, and also after a couple of weeks utilize straw over paper. Note: Avoid using just paper or other slipper surfaces-- or your chicks legs can expand malformed. You likewise require something to provide food as well as water in, such as a chicken feeder as well as water meal from the feed store, or a pickle jar cover for food and also a family pet bird water dispenser from a pet store. Also, as the chicks get older you could present a perch right into the habitat to obtain them educated on perching. Warmth To keep your chicks heat you have to give them with a warmth resource. This can be as easy as a 100 watt light bulb in a reflective clamp style light from an equipment store, or an infrared reptile warmth light bulb also work extremely well (my recommendation). Chicks require this heat 24/7 up until their downy fluff is replaced with feathers (which could occupy to 2 months). The recently hatched need a temperature between 90 and also 100 degrees, as well as each week this could be minimized by approximately 5 degrees approximately. The warmth resource need to get on merely one side of the cage to allow chicks a variety of temperature levels. The chicks are your ideal thermometer- if they are concealing in the other edge of your heat light, you should decrease the temperature level. If they are surrounding each various other under the warmth (not simply cuddling), you have to add some heat. Housekeeping Tidiness is key and also it maintains your chicks healthy and balanced. Make sure to transform the bed linens often as well as consistently provide clean food and water Food as well as water. Chicks expand quite quickly which calls for plenty of tidy food and also water. Give sufficient at all times and inspect typically to prevent thirsty and also starving chicks. Chick food is various than adult chicken food, and it can be found in both medicated as well as non-medicated varieties. Feed chick food for the initial 2 months, then switch to a raiser food (~ 17 % protein) for another 2 months, and then to a slightly lower protein feed or a level feed (if you have layers). Soil Some chicks like to obtain a running start on taking filth baths, while others will not occupy that activity until they are older. If you have the area in your chick room, introduce a tray of sand or filth for them to bathe in. Interest as well as love There are a few advantages to spending time with your chicks. Firstly, they will more than likely bond with you and not escape as grownups. Second, if you examine your chicks daily and see their actions, you could capture illness or other issues earlier. Keep an eye out for hissing, limping, or various other unhealthy indicators. Make certain to likewise check out their poop, as looseness of the bowels could result in matted feathers and stopped up cloaca. Lastly, it is important to look out for social issues, such as the tiniest chick obtaining teased. Empty nest disorder So your chicks are now fully feathered and also its time for them to leave the safety of your residence as well as relocate outside into a cage. Have a look at our area on chicken cages to find out more about coops as well as proper cage environments.
