On Saturday, we butchered 35 meat chickens in 3 1/2  hours!! It was a lot of fun…but a little cold.    Daddy took care of the heads, wings and legs. Jessie, Lyssa and Annie skinned them and Suzanna and Cassie gutted them. At the end we all cut up the pieces and bagged them. Bekah and Charissa were our photographers!!    Here are a few pictures…

Bantams typically weigh less than 2 pounds when full grown. Just like ordering anything online there are pros and cons to ordering baby chicks online. Pros of buying baby chicks in East Falmouth Massachusetts * Big Selection - If you are wanting a large variety of different chicken breeds and egg colors, you will find the best selection at an online hatchery. * Both Bantams and full sized chickens available * You get to choose what sex you want. Quantity - you must order a certain number of chicks. Typically hatcheries will require you buy a minimum of 25 chicks at a time. The number is necessary for the chicks survival during shipping. All 25 chicks are put in one small box without heat. They are crowded in the box and produce enough body heat to arrive in good shape. * The wait - If you choose to buy chicks from a feed store you will have them the same day but if you choose to go with a hatchery you have to wait until they are ready to ship and then wait for the chicks to arrive. Ordering baby chicks online in East Falmouth Massachusetts is easy and has always been a very pleasant experience of me. It can be a little frustrating waiting for the chicks but it's so worth the wait. When the post office calls and you hear all those little "cheeps" or "chirps" in the background you'll know the wait was worth it! How to Care for your new baby chickens in East Falmouth, Massachusetts Baby chicks are really adorable as well as challenging to stand up to, but it's ideal to prepare for their arrival before you get them. Prepare first by collecting not only the appropriate materials, yet likewise the appropriate expertise to care for them. Raising baby chicks is fairly easy, you simply need to offer them with the following: A tidy as well as warm and comfortable environment Plenty of food and water Attention and love Environment Your habitat can be an easy box, fish tank, feline carrier, or guinea porker cage. Line it with old towels and coverings (with no loosened strings!) to begin, as well as after a few weeks utilize straw over newspaper. Keep in mind: Avoid using just paper or various other slipper surfaces-- or your chicks legs could grow misshapen. You also require something to serve up food and also water in, such as a chicken feeder and also water meal from the feed shop, or a pickle container cover for food and an animal bird water dispenser from a pet dog shop. Additionally, as the chicks get older you can present a perch right into the environment to obtain them educated on perching. Warmth To maintain your chicks warm you have to supply them with a heat resource. This could be as easy as a 100 watt light bulb in a reflective clamp design light from a hardware store, or an infrared reptile heat light bulb additionally function extremely well (my referral). Chicks need this heat 24/7 till their downy fluff is replaced with plumes (which can take up to 2 months). The recently hatched require a temperature between 90 as well as 100 degrees, as well as every week this could be decreased by about 5 levels or so. The heat source need to get on simply one side of the cage to enable chicks a range of temperature levels. The chicks are your best thermostat- if they are hiding in the other corner of your warmth lamp, you should reduce the temperature level. If they are surrounding each various other under the warmth (not just curling up), you have to put some heat. Housekeeping Sanitation is key and also it keeps your chicks healthy. Make sure to change the bed linens usually and consistently provide tidy food as well as water Food and water. Chicks grow really quick which requires a lot of tidy food as well as water. Offer sufficient in any way times as well as inspect commonly to prevent dehydrated and also starving chicks. Chick food is different than grown-up chicken food, and also it comes in both medicated and non-medicated selections. Feed chick food for the initial 2 months, then change to a grower food (~ 17 % protein) for an additional 2 months, and afterwards to a slightly lower protein feed or a level feed (if you have levels). Soil Some chicks want to obtain a running start on taking dirt baths, while others won't use up that activity till they are older. If you have the area in your chick room, present a tray of sand or filth for them to shower in. Attention and love There are a few benefits to spending time with your chicks. First of all, they will most likely bond with you and also not escape as adults. Second, if you analyze your chicks daily and enjoy their habits, you could catch illness or other issues previously. Keep an eye out for hissing, limping, or various other undesirable signs. Be sure to additionally look at their poop, as looseness of the bowels could bring about matted feathers and stopped up cloaca. Lastly, it is essential to watch out for social concerns, such as the littlest chick getting teased. Vacant nest syndrome So your chicks are currently completely feathery as well as its time for them to leave the safety and security of your residence as well as move outside into a coop. Check out our area on chicken cages to get more information about cages and appropriate coop environments.
