On Saturday, we butchered 35 meat chickens in 3 1/2  hours!! It was a lot of fun…but a little cold.    Daddy took care of the heads, wings and legs. Jessie, Lyssa and Annie skinned them and Suzanna and Cassie gutted them. At the end we all cut up the pieces and bagged them. Bekah and Charissa were our photographers!!    Here are a few pictures…

WITypically hatcheries online offer both standard breeds and bantams. Bantams are fun hardy little chickens, they lay tiny eggs that kids especially love collecting. Bantams typically weigh less than 2 pounds when full grown. Just like ordering anything online there are pros and cons to ordering baby chicks online. Pros of buying baby chicks in Richfield Wisconsin * Big Selection - If you are wanting a large variety of different chicken breeds and egg colors, you will find the best selection at an online hatchery. * Both Bantams and full sized chickens available * You get to choose what sex you want. If you want a mixture of both male and female then choosing a "straight run" will save you money and you will get a mixture of male and female chicks. You can also choose all males or all females too. * Weekly specials. Hatcheries have sales on chicks, you are likely to get a good deal if you are flexible with the breeds you are wanting. Quantity - you must order a certain number of chicks. Typically hatcheries will require you buy a minimum of 25 chicks at a time. The number is necessary for the chicks survival during shipping. All 25 chicks are put in one small box without heat. They are crowded in the box and produce enough body heat to arrive in good shape. * The wait - If you choose to buy chicks from a feed store you will have them the same day but if you choose to go with a hatchery you have to wait until they are ready to ship and then wait for the chicks to arrive. Ordering baby chicks online in Richfield Wisconsin is easy and has always been a very pleasant experience of me. It can be a little frustrating waiting for the chicks but it's so worth the wait. When the post office calls and you hear all those little "cheeps" or "chirps" in the background you'll know the wait was worth it! How to Care for your new baby chickens in Richfield, Wisconsin Baby chicks are quite cute and tough to stand up to, yet it's finest to prepare for their arrival before you obtain them. Prepare initially by gathering not only the proper products, yet additionally the correct expertise to take care of them. Raising baby chicks is relatively basic, you simply have to offer them with the following: A tidy as well as warm environment Plenty of food as well as water Attention and love Habitat Your environment can be a basic box, aquarium, feline service provider, or guinea porker cage. Line it with old towels and coverings (with no loose strings!) to begin, as well as after a few weeks use straw over paper. Note: Avoid utilizing just newspaper or other sandal surface areas-- or your chicks legs can grow misshapen. You likewise require something to serve up food as well as water in, such as a chicken feeder as well as water recipe from the feed store, or a pickle container lid for food and also a pet dog bird water dispenser from a family pet shop. Likewise, as the chicks get older you could present a perch into the habitat to get them trained on perching. Heat To maintain your chicks warm you have to supply them with a warmth resource. This can be as easy as a 100 watt light bulb in a reflective clamp style light from an equipment store, or an infrared reptile heat light bulb also work very well (my suggestion). Chicks need this heat 24/7 up until their downy fluff is replaced with feathers (which can take up to two months). The newly hatched out require a temperature in between 90 and 100 degrees, and also each week this can be lowered by approximately 5 degrees or so. The warmth resource must get on simply one side of the cage to enable chicks a variety of temperature levels. The chicks are your finest thermostat- if they are concealing in the opposite edge of your warmth lamp, you need to lower the temperature level. If they are smothering each other under the warmth (not merely curling up), you have to include some warmth. Home cleaning Sanitation is vital and also it maintains your chicks healthy and balanced. Make certain to change the bed linens frequently and consistently supply clean food and water Food and also water. Chicks grow quite quick which requires plenty of tidy food as well as water. Give sufficient at all times and examine often to stop dehydrated and hungry chicks. Chick food is various compared to adult chicken food, and it can be found in both medicated and non-medicated ranges. Feed chick food for the first 2 months, after that change to a grower food (~ 17 % protein) for one more 2 months, then to a slightly lower healthy protein feed or a layer feed (if you have levels). Soil Some chicks like to obtain a head start on taking filth baths, while others will not occupy that activity until they are older. If you have the space in your chick room, introduce a tray of sand or dirt for them to shower in. Focus as well as love There are a few advantages to spending quality time with your chicks. First of all, they will most likely bond with you and also not escape as adults. Second, if you analyze your chicks daily as well as enjoy their actions, you can capture ailment or various other issues previously. Keep an eye out for hissing, hopping, or various other unhealthy indicators. Be sure to likewise take a look at their poop, as looseness of the bowels can result in matted feathers as well as stopped up cloaca. Finally, it is necessary to look out for social concerns, such as the smallest chick obtaining badgered. Empty nest syndrome So your chicks are now completely feathery as well as its time for them to leave the safety of your home and also relocate outside into a coop. Have a look at our area on chicken cages to read more regarding cages and also proper cage habitats.
