On Saturday, we butchered 35 meat chickens in 3 1/2  hours!! It was a lot of fun…but a little cold.    Daddy took care of the heads, wings and legs. Jessie, Lyssa and Annie skinned them and Suzanna and Cassie gutted them. At the end we all cut up the pieces and bagged them. Bekah and Charissa were our photographers!!    Here are a few pictures…

Bantams typically weigh less than 2 pounds when full grown. Just like ordering anything online there are pros and cons to ordering baby chicks online. Pros of buying baby chicks in Chester West Virginia * Big Selection - If you are wanting a large variety of different chicken breeds and egg colors, you will find the best selection at an online hatchery. * Both Bantams and full sized chickens available * You get to choose what sex you want. Quantity - you must order a certain number of chicks. Typically hatcheries will require you buy a minimum of 25 chicks at a time. The number is necessary for the chicks survival during shipping. All 25 chicks are put in one small box without heat. They are crowded in the box and produce enough body heat to arrive in good shape. * The wait - If you choose to buy chicks from a feed store you will have them the same day but if you choose to go with a hatchery you have to wait until they are ready to ship and then wait for the chicks to arrive. Ordering baby chicks online in Chester West Virginia is easy and has always been a very pleasant experience of me. It can be a little frustrating waiting for the chicks but it's so worth the wait. When the post office calls and you hear all those little "cheeps" or "chirps" in the background you'll know the wait was worth it! How to Care for your new baby chickens in Chester, West Virginia Baby chicks are extremely adorable and also tough to stand up to, yet it's best to plan for their arrival prior to you get them. Prepare initially by gathering not only the correct materials, yet also the proper expertise to take care of them. Raising baby chicks is relatively straightforward, you just need to provide them with the following: A clean and also warm and comfortable habitat Plenty of food and also water Focus and also love Habitat Your environment could be an easy box, fish tank, pet cat carrier, or guinea porker cage. Line it with old towels and also coverings (without loose strings!) to begin, and after a couple of weeks utilize straw over newspaper. Keep in mind: Avoid utilizing just newspaper or various other slipper surface areas-- or your chicks legs could expand malformed. You also require something to serve up food as well as water in, such as a chicken feeder and also water dish from the feed shop, or a pickle container lid for food and also a pet bird water dispenser from a pet store. Additionally, as the chicks age you could introduce a perch into the environment to obtain them educated on perching. Warmth To maintain your chicks warm you have to give them with a warmth resource. This can be as straightforward as a 100 watt light bulb in a reflective clamp design light from a hardware shop, or an infrared reptile heat light bulb likewise work very well (my recommendation). Chicks require this heat 24/7 until their downy fluff is replaced with feathers (which can use up to two months). The freshly hatched out require a temperature level between 90 as well as 100 levels, and weekly this could be decreased by around 5 degrees approximately. The heat source ought to get on merely one side of the cage to allow chicks a range of temperature levels. The chicks are your finest thermometer- if they are hiding in the other corner of your heat lamp, you have to decrease the temperature level. If they are surrounding each various other under the heat (not just curling up), you have to include some heat. House cleaning Tidiness is vital as well as it maintains your chicks healthy. Make sure to alter the bedding often and consistently give clean food as well as water Food and also water. Chicks expand very quickly which calls for lots of clean food and water. Give sufficient in any way times and also examine commonly to prevent parched and also starving chicks. Chick food is different compared to adult chicken food, and it comes in both medicated and non-medicated ranges. Feed chick food for the very first 2 months, then switch to a raiser food (~ 17 % healthy protein) for an additional 2 months, and afterwards to a somewhat reduced healthy protein feed or a level feed (if you have levels). Dirt Some chicks prefer to get a head start on taking dirt baths, while others won't take up that activity until they are older. If you have the area in your chick room, introduce a tray of sand or dust for them to shower in. Attention and also love There are a couple of advantages to spending quality time with your chicks. First of all, they will more than likely bond with you and not flee as grownups. Second, if you analyze your chicks daily as well as view their behavior, you can capture illness or other problems previously. Watch out for hissing, limping, or various other undesirable indications. Be sure to also take a look at their poop, as looseness of the bowels could bring about matted plumes and clogged cloaca. Lastly, it is very important to keep an eye out for social concerns, such as the tiniest chick obtaining badgered. Vacant nest disorder So your chicks are currently fully feathered and also its time for them to leave the safety of your house as well as relocate outside right into a cage. Check out our area on chicken cages to read more regarding coops as well as proper cage habitats.
