New Baby Chicks Have Arrived

I just had to share some pictures of our newest babies.  They are black sexlinks and one golden sexlink.  They are sooo cute.  We just got them yesterday, but they are 10 days old.  Since it has done nothing but rain, 2.75 inches between yesterday and today, they are safe and dry in the garage.  When everything dries out they will go to the outdoor brooder.

I’ll post more pictures as time goes.

Bantams typically weigh less than 2 pounds when full grown. Just like ordering anything online there are pros and cons to ordering baby chicks online. Pros of buying baby chicks in Santaquin Utah * Big Selection - If you are wanting a large variety of different chicken breeds and egg colors, you will find the best selection at an online hatchery. * Both Bantams and full sized chickens available * You get to choose what sex you want. Quantity - you must order a certain number of chicks. Typically hatcheries will require you buy a minimum of 25 chicks at a time. The number is necessary for the chicks survival during shipping. All 25 chicks are put in one small box without heat. They are crowded in the box and produce enough body heat to arrive in good shape. * The wait - If you choose to buy chicks from a feed store you will have them the same day but if you choose to go with a hatchery you have to wait until they are ready to ship and then wait for the chicks to arrive. Ordering baby chicks online in Santaquin Utah is easy and has always been a very pleasant experience of me. It can be a little frustrating waiting for the chicks but it's so worth the wait. When the post office calls and you hear all those little "cheeps" or "chirps" in the background you'll know the wait was worth it! How to Care for your new baby chickens in Santaquin, Utah Baby chicks are extremely cute and also challenging to resist, yet it's best to plan for their arrival prior to you obtain them. Prepare first by gathering not just the proper products, however also the correct understanding to take care of them. Raising baby chicks is fairly easy, you simply need to give them with the following: A clean and also cozy environment Plenty of food and also water Focus and also love Environment Your habitat can be a basic box, fish tank, feline provider, or guinea pig cage. Line it with old towels and coverings (without any loosened strings!) to start, and after a few weeks use straw over paper. Keep in mind: Avoid utilizing only paper or other slipper surfaces-- or your chicks legs can expand misshapen. You likewise need something to serve up food and also water in, such as a chicken feeder and also water dish from the feed shop, or a pickle container cover for food and also an animal bird water dispenser from a pet dog shop. Also, as the chicks get older you could present a perch into the environment to get them educated on perching. Warmth To keep your chicks heat you need to offer them with a warmth resource. This could be as basic as a 100 watt light bulb in a reflective clamp style light from a hardware shop, or an infrared reptile heat bulb also work effectively (my referral). Chicks require this warmth 24/7 till their downy fluff is replaced with plumes (which could take up to two months). The newly hatched out require a temperature in between 90 and 100 levels, and weekly this could be decreased by approximately 5 levels approximately. The heat resource should be on just one side of the cage to allow chicks an array of temperature levels. The chicks are your best thermostat- if they are concealing in the other corner of your warmth light, you need to decrease the temperature level. If they are surrounding each various other under the warmth (not merely cuddling), you have to put some heat. Home cleaning Cleanliness is essential and also it maintains your chicks healthy and balanced. Make certain to alter the bedding commonly and also constantly supply tidy food and water Food as well as water. Chicks expand really fast which calls for a lot of clean food as well as water. Give sufficient at all times and inspect frequently to stop parched as well as starving chicks. Chick food is different compared to grown-up chicken food, and it can be found in both medicated and also non-medicated ranges. Feed chick food for the initial two months, after that change to a grower food (~ 17 % healthy protein) for an additional 2 months, then to a slightly lower healthy protein feed or a layer feed (if you have layers). Soil Some chicks like to get a head start on taking filth bathrooms, while others won't take up that activity up until they are older. If you have the room in your chick unit, introduce a tray of sand or filth for them to bathe in. Interest and also love There are a few advantages to spending time with your chicks. First of all, they will most likely bond with you and not escape as adults. Second, if you examine your chicks daily as well as see their habits, you could catch health problem or other issues earlier. Keep an eye out for wheezing, hopping, or other harmful indications. Be sure to additionally consider their poop, as looseness of the bowels could cause matted plumes and also stopped up cloaca. Lastly, it is important to look out for social issues, such as the tiniest chick obtaining teased. Vacant nest syndrome So your chicks are now totally feathered as well as its time for them to leave the safety of your home as well as relocate outside into a coop. Look into our area on chicken coops to get more information concerning coops as well as appropriate cage environments.
