New Baby Chicks Have Arrived

I just had to share some pictures of our newest babies.  They are black sexlinks and one golden sexlink.  They are sooo cute.  We just got them yesterday, but they are 10 days old.  Since it has done nothing but rain, 2.75 inches between yesterday and today, they are safe and dry in the garage.  When everything dries out they will go to the outdoor brooder.

I’ll post more pictures as time goes.

How to Care for your new baby chickens in Ocoee, Tennessee Baby chicks are really cute and tough to stand up to, yet it's finest to prepare for their arrival before you get them. Prepare first by collecting not only the proper materials, but likewise the correct understanding to take care of them. Raising baby chicks is relatively basic, you simply need to give them with the following: A clean and also warm environment A lot of food as well as water Focus and also love Habitat Your habitat can be a basic box, fish tank, feline carrier, or guinea porker cage. Line it with old towels as well as coverings (with no loose strings!) to start, as well as after a few weeks utilize straw over newspaper. Note: Avoid making use of just newspaper or other slipper surfaces-- or your chicks legs can grow malformed. You additionally need something to dish out food and water in, such as a chicken feeder and water meal from the feed store, or a pickle container lid for food as well as a pet dog bird water dispenser from a family pet shop. Additionally, as the chicks grow older you can present a perch right into the habitat to obtain them educated on setting down. Heat To keep your chicks warm you have to give them with a warmth source. This could be as simple as a 100 watt light bulb in a reflective clamp design light from a hardware shop, or an infrared reptile warmth bulb also work very well (my recommendation). Chicks require this heat 24/7 until their downy fluff is changed with feathers (which can use up to two months). The recently hatched out need a temperature in between 90 and 100 levels, and also every week this can be decreased by approximately 5 degrees or so. The warmth source need to be on just one side of the cage to enable chicks a variety of temperatures. The chicks are your best thermostat- if they are hiding in the contrary corner of your warmth lamp, you have to reduce the temperature level. If they are smothering each other under the warmth (not simply curling up), you need to add some warmth. House cleaning Cleanliness is key as well as it keeps your chicks healthy. Make certain to alter the bed linen frequently and always offer tidy food as well as water Food and also water. Chicks grow really quick which needs lots of clean food as well as water. Provide enough whatsoever times and also inspect usually to stop thirsty as well as hungry chicks. Chick food is various compared to adult chicken food, as well as it comes in both medicated and non-medicated ranges. Feed chick food for the first two months, then switch over to a raiser food (~ 17 % protein) for an additional 2 months, and after that to a somewhat lower protein feed or a level feed (if you have levels). Dirt Some chicks like to obtain a running start on taking filth bathrooms, while others will not take up that task till they are older. If you have the space in your chick room, present a tray of sand or filth for them to shower in. Focus and also love There are a few advantages to hanging out with your chicks. Firstly, they will certainly probably bond with you and not flee as adults. Second, if you analyze your chicks daily and also watch their actions, you can catch ailment or various other issues previously. Keep an eye out for wheezing, hopping, or other undesirable indicators. Make sure to likewise check out their poop, as looseness of the bowels can result in matted feathers as well as obstructed cloaca. Finally, it is very important to watch out for social issues, such as the smallest chick getting teased. Empty nest syndrome So your chicks are currently fully feathered and also its time for them to leave the security of your home as well as relocate outside right into a cage. Take a look at our part on chicken coops to get more information about coops and correct cage habitats.
