On Saturday, we butchered 35 meat chickens in 3 1/2  hours!! It was a lot of fun…but a little cold.    Daddy took care of the heads, wings and legs. Jessie, Lyssa and Annie skinned them and Suzanna and Cassie gutted them. At the end we all cut up the pieces and bagged them. Bekah and Charissa were our photographers!!    Here are a few pictures…

Bantams typically weigh less than 2 pounds when full grown. Just like ordering anything online there are pros and cons to ordering baby chicks online. Pros of buying baby chicks in Finger Tennessee * Big Selection - If you are wanting a large variety of different chicken breeds and egg colors, you will find the best selection at an online hatchery. * Both Bantams and full sized chickens available * You get to choose what sex you want. Quantity - you must order a certain number of chicks. Typically hatcheries will require you buy a minimum of 25 chicks at a time. The number is necessary for the chicks survival during shipping. All 25 chicks are put in one small box without heat. They are crowded in the box and produce enough body heat to arrive in good shape. * The wait - If you choose to buy chicks from a feed store you will have them the same day but if you choose to go with a hatchery you have to wait until they are ready to ship and then wait for the chicks to arrive. Ordering baby chicks online in Finger Tennessee is easy and has always been a very pleasant experience of me. It can be a little frustrating waiting for the chicks but it's so worth the wait. When the post office calls and you hear all those little "cheeps" or "chirps" in the background you'll know the wait was worth it! How to Care for your new baby chickens in Finger, Tennessee Baby chicks are extremely charming and difficult to stand up to, yet it's ideal to prepare for their arrival before you get them. Prepare first by gathering not only the proper products, yet additionally the correct expertise to look after them. Raising baby chicks is relatively straightforward, you merely should provide them with the following: A tidy and also warm and comfortable environment Lots of food as well as water Interest and love Environment Your environment can be a straightforward box, aquarium, pet cat service provider, or guinea porker cage. Line it with old towels as well as coverings (without loosened strings!) to begin, and after a few weeks use straw over newspaper. Keep in mind: Avoid utilizing only newspaper or other slipper surface areas-- or your chicks legs can expand misshapen. You likewise require something to provide food as well as water in, such as a chicken feeder and water recipe from the feed shop, or a pickle container lid for food and also a pet bird water dispenser from an animal store. Likewise, as the chicks age you can present a perch right into the habitat to get them trained on perching. Warmth To maintain your chicks warm you need to supply them with a heat source. This can be as simple as a 100 watt light bulb in a reflective clamp design light from a hardware shop, or an infrared reptile heat bulb also work very well (my referral). Chicks require this heat 24/7 till their downy fluff is replaced with feathers (which could take up to 2 months). The freshly hatched out need a temperature level in between 90 as well as 100 degrees, and weekly this can be decreased by around 5 degrees approximately. The heat resource ought to be on merely one side of the cage to allow chicks an array of temperatures. The chicks are your best thermostat- if they are hiding in the other corner of your heat light, you need to minimize the temperature. If they are smothering each other under the warmth (not just curling up), you should put some heat. House cleaning Sanitation is vital and also it keeps your chicks healthy and balanced. Be sure to change the bedding often as well as constantly provide tidy food as well as water Food and also water. Chicks grow extremely quick which requires lots of tidy food as well as water. Supply enough at all times and also check commonly to stop dehydrated and starving chicks. Chick food is various compared to adult chicken food, and it can be found in both medicated and non-medicated selections. Feed chick food for the initial two months, after that switch to a raiser food (~ 17 % healthy protein) for an additional 2 months, and after that to a slightly lower healthy protein feed or a level feed (if you have layers). Dirt Some chicks want to get a head start on taking dirt baths, while others won't occupy that activity up until they are older. If you have the area in your chick room, present a tray of sand or filth for them to shower in. Interest and also love There are a couple of benefits to spending time with your chicks. To start with, they will probably bond with you as well as not flee as grownups. Second, if you examine your chicks daily as well as watch their behavior, you could catch ailment or other issues earlier. Keep an eye out for wheezing, hopping, or various other harmful indications. Make certain to also check out their poop, as looseness of the bowels could bring about matted feathers and obstructed cloaca. Lastly, it is important to watch out for social concerns, such as the littlest chick getting picked on. Vacant nest disorder So your chicks are now completely feathery as well as its time for them to leave the safety of your house and relocate outside right into a cage. Look into our section on chicken cages to read more regarding cages and proper coop habitats.
