On Saturday, we butchered 35 meat chickens in 3 1/2  hours!! It was a lot of fun…but a little cold.    Daddy took care of the heads, wings and legs. Jessie, Lyssa and Annie skinned them and Suzanna and Cassie gutted them. At the end we all cut up the pieces and bagged them. Bekah and Charissa were our photographers!!    Here are a few pictures…

Bantams typically weigh less than 2 pounds when full grown. Just like ordering anything online there are pros and cons to ordering baby chicks online. Pros of buying baby chicks in Thorndale Pennsylvania * Big Selection - If you are wanting a large variety of different chicken breeds and egg colors, you will find the best selection at an online hatchery. * Both Bantams and full sized chickens available * You get to choose what sex you want. Quantity - you must order a certain number of chicks. Typically hatcheries will require you buy a minimum of 25 chicks at a time. The number is necessary for the chicks survival during shipping. All 25 chicks are put in one small box without heat. They are crowded in the box and produce enough body heat to arrive in good shape. * The wait - If you choose to buy chicks from a feed store you will have them the same day but if you choose to go with a hatchery you have to wait until they are ready to ship and then wait for the chicks to arrive. Ordering baby chicks online in Thorndale Pennsylvania is easy and has always been a very pleasant experience of me. It can be a little frustrating waiting for the chicks but it's so worth the wait. When the post office calls and you hear all those little "cheeps" or "chirps" in the background you'll know the wait was worth it! How to Care for your new baby chickens in Thorndale, Pennsylvania Baby chicks are really cute and also hard to resist, however it's ideal to plan for their arrival before you obtain them. Prepare initially by gathering not only the right materials, but additionally the correct understanding to take care of them. Raising baby chicks is relatively simple, you just have to offer them with the following: A clean and also warm and comfortable environment Lots of food as well as water Attention as well as love Environment Your environment can be a straightforward box, fish tank, feline service provider, or guinea pig cage. Line it with old towels and blankets (without any loose strings!) to begin, and also after a couple of weeks make use of straw over newspaper. Note: Avoid utilizing just newspaper or other sandal surfaces-- or your chicks legs can grow misshapen. You likewise require something to serve up food and water in, such as a chicken feeder as well as water meal from the feed store, or a pickle jar lid for food as well as a pet bird water dispenser from a pet shop. Also, as the chicks get older you could introduce a perch into the environment to get them trained on setting down. Warmth To keep your chicks heat you need to supply them with a warmth resource. This could be as simple as a 100 watt light bulb in a reflective clamp design light from an equipment store, or an infrared reptile heat light bulb likewise work effectively (my referral). Chicks need this heat 24/7 until their downy fluff is changed with plumes (which could use up to two months). The recently hatched require a temperature level between 90 as well as 100 degrees, as well as every week this could be decreased by approximately 5 levels or so. The heat source must be on simply one side of the cage to allow chicks a range of temperatures. The chicks are your best thermometer- if they are concealing in the opposite corner of your heat lamp, you need to reduce the temperature. If they are smothering each various other under the heat (not merely snuggling), you have to put some warmth. Home cleaning Tidiness is essential as well as it maintains your chicks healthy. Make certain to alter the bed linen typically and also constantly offer tidy food and water Food as well as water. Chicks grow quite quickly which calls for a lot of tidy food and water. Provide sufficient in any way times and also check typically to avoid parched as well as starving chicks. Chick food is different compared to adult chicken food, and it can be found in both medicated and non-medicated varieties. Feed chick food for the first 2 months, then switch over to a raiser food (~ 17 % protein) for another 2 months, then to a slightly reduced healthy protein feed or a level feed (if you have levels). Soil Some chicks prefer to obtain a running start on taking dust bathrooms, while others will not occupy that task till they are older. If you have the room in your chick unit, present a tray of sand or filth for them to bathe in. Focus and love There are a few advantages to hanging out with your chicks. First off, they will certainly more than likely bond with you and not flee as adults. Second, if you analyze your chicks daily and see their actions, you could capture illness or other issues previously. Keep an eye out for hissing, hopping, or various other undesirable indicators. Make sure to also look at their poop, as diarrhea could result in matted plumes and obstructed cloaca. Lastly, it is essential to keep an eye out for social issues, such as the smallest chick getting picked on. Vacant nest syndrome So your chicks are now fully feathery and its time for them to leave the security of your house and also move outside into a coop. Look into our section on chicken cages to read more concerning cages and also correct cage habitats.
