On Saturday, we butchered 35 meat chickens in 3 1/2  hours!! It was a lot of fun…but a little cold.    Daddy took care of the heads, wings and legs. Jessie, Lyssa and Annie skinned them and Suzanna and Cassie gutted them. At the end we all cut up the pieces and bagged them. Bekah and Charissa were our photographers!!    Here are a few pictures…

Quantity - you must order a certain number of chicks. Typically hatcheries will require you buy a minimum of 25 chicks at a time. The number is necessary for the chicks survival during shipping. All 25 chicks are put in one small box without heat. They are crowded in the box and produce enough body heat to arrive in good shape. * The wait - If you choose to buy chicks from a feed store you will have them the same day but if you choose to go with a hatchery you have to wait until they are ready to ship and then wait for the chicks to arrive. Ordering baby chicks online in Harwick Pennsylvania is easy and has always been a very pleasant experience of me. It can be a little frustrating waiting for the chicks but it's so worth the wait. When the post office calls and you hear all those little "cheeps" or "chirps" in the background you'll know the wait was worth it! How to Care for your new baby chickens in Harwick, Pennsylvania Baby chicks are really adorable and difficult to resist, however it's finest to prepare for their arrival before you get them. Prepare first by gathering not only the proper materials, yet additionally the proper expertise to look after them. Raising baby chicks is relatively straightforward, you simply should give them with the following: A clean and warm environment A lot of food and water Focus as well as love Habitat Your habitat can be an easy box, aquarium, feline provider, or guinea porker cage. Line it with old towels and also blankets (with no loose strings!) to start, and also after a couple of weeks use straw over paper. Keep in mind: Avoid using only paper or various other slipper surface areas-- or your chicks legs can grow misshapen. You additionally need something to serve up food as well as water in, such as a chicken feeder and also water meal from the feed shop, or a pickle container cover for food and a family pet bird water dispenser from a pet store. Additionally, as the chicks age you could introduce a perch into the habitat to obtain them educated on perching. Warmth To maintain your chicks warm you have to give them with a heat source. This could be as straightforward as a 100 watt light bulb in a reflective clamp style light from a hardware shop, or an infrared reptile warmth light bulb likewise function extremely well (my referral). Chicks require this warmth 24/7 until their downy fluff is changed with plumes (which can take up to two months). The freshly hatched need a temperature level between 90 and 100 degrees, and weekly this could be minimized by roughly 5 levels or so. The warmth source should be on simply one side of the cage to allow chicks a range of temperatures. The chicks are your ideal thermometer- if they are hiding in the other edge of your heat light, you need to reduce the temperature level. If they are smothering each other under the warmth (not simply curling up), you have to put some warmth. House cleaning Sanitation is key and it maintains your chicks healthy. Make certain to change the bed linens often and constantly give clean food and water Food and also water. Chicks expand quite fast which needs lots of tidy food as well as water. Provide sufficient at all times and inspect usually to stop parched as well as hungry chicks. Chick food is various than grown-up chicken food, and it can be found in both medicated and non-medicated selections. Feed chick food for the initial two months, then switch over to a raiser food (~ 17 % healthy protein) for one more 2 months, then to a somewhat reduced protein feed or a level feed (if you have levels). Soil Some chicks want to get a running start on taking filth bathrooms, while others won't take up that task up until they are older. If you have the room in your chick room, present a tray of sand or filth for them to wash in. Interest and love There are a couple of advantages to hanging out with your chicks. To start with, they will most likely bond with you and not flee as grownups. Second, if you examine your chicks daily and also view their behavior, you could catch health problem or various other problems earlier. Keep an eye out for hissing, limping, or various other unhealthy indications. Make certain to likewise look at their poop, as looseness of the bowels could result in matted feathers as well as blocked cloaca. Finally, it is very important to look out for social problems, such as the tiniest chick getting teased. Empty nest disorder So your chicks are now fully feathery and its time for them to leave the safety of your house and also move outside right into a coop. Check out our area on chicken coops to get more information about coops as well as proper coop environments.
