Bantams typically weigh less than 2 pounds when full grown. Just like ordering anything online there are pros and cons to ordering baby chicks online. Pros of buying baby chicks in Kiefer Oklahoma * Big Selection - If you are wanting a large variety of different chicken breeds and egg colors, you will find the best selection at an online hatchery. * Both Bantams and full sized chickens available * You get to choose what sex you want. When the post office calls and you hear all those little "cheeps" or "chirps" in the background you'll know the wait was worth it! How to Care for your new baby chickens in Kiefer, Oklahoma Baby chicks are really cute and hard to stand up to, however it's best to prepare for their arrival prior to you obtain them. Prepare first by collecting not just the appropriate products, yet additionally the correct knowledge to care for them. Raising baby chicks is relatively straightforward, you simply have to supply them with the following: A tidy and also cozy environment Lots of food as well as water Interest and also love Habitat Your environment can be a simple box, fish tank, feline carrier, or guinea porker cage. Line it with old towels and also blankets (with no loose strings!) to begin, and after a few weeks make use of straw over newspaper. Note: Avoid making use of just paper or other sandal surface areas-- or your chicks legs could grow misshapen. You additionally need something to provide food and water in, such as a chicken feeder and also water dish from the feed shop, or a pickle container lid for food and also a pet dog bird water dispenser from a pet store. Likewise, as the chicks get older you could present a perch into the environment to get them educated on perching. Warmth To maintain your chicks warm you have to offer them with a heat resource. This can be as simple as a 100 watt light bulb in a reflective clamp design light from a hardware shop, or an infrared reptile heat light bulb additionally work effectively (my referral). Chicks require this warmth 24/7 up until their downy fluff is replaced with plumes (which can occupy to two months). The recently hatched out require a temperature between 90 and 100 degrees, as well as weekly this can be decreased by approximately 5 degrees or so. The warmth source ought to get on merely one side of the cage to allow chicks a range of temperatures. The chicks are your best thermometer- if they are hiding in the contrary corner of your warmth lamp, you have to decrease the temperature level. If they are surrounding each various other under the heat (not merely snuggling), you need to add some warmth. Home cleaning Tidiness is essential and it keeps your chicks healthy and balanced. Make sure to change the bedding typically and consistently offer clean food and also water Food and also water. Chicks expand very quickly which calls for lots of tidy food as well as water. Offer sufficient whatsoever times and also inspect often to prevent parched as well as starving chicks. Chick food is different than grown-up chicken food, as well as it can be found in both medicated as well as non-medicated selections. Feed chick food for the first two months, after that change to a raiser food (~ 17 % healthy protein) for an additional 2 months, and after that to a slightly reduced healthy protein feed or a layer feed (if you have layers). Dirt Some chicks want to get a running start on taking filth baths, while others won't use up that activity until they are older. If you have the room in your chick enclosure, introduce a tray of sand or filth for them to wash in. Attention as well as love There are a few benefits to hanging out with your chicks. First off, they will certainly more than likely bond with you as well as not flee as adults. Second, if you analyze your chicks daily and watch their behavior, you can catch health problem or other issues earlier. Keep an eye out for wheezing, hopping, or other harmful signs. Be sure to also consider their poop, as diarrhea could cause matted plumes as well as obstructed cloaca. Last but not least, it is important to watch out for social problems, such as the littlest chick getting badgered. Vacant nest syndrome So your chicks are currently completely feathery and also its time for them to leave the safety of your residence and also move outside into a cage.
