On Saturday, we butchered 35 meat chickens in 3 1/2  hours!! It was a lot of fun…but a little cold.    Daddy took care of the heads, wings and legs. Jessie, Lyssa and Annie skinned them and Suzanna and Cassie gutted them. At the end we all cut up the pieces and bagged them. Bekah and Charissa were our photographers!!    Here are a few pictures…

Pros of buying baby chicks in Berlin North Dakota * Big Selection - If you are wanting a large variety of different chicken breeds and egg colors, you will find the best selection at an online hatchery. * Both Bantams and full sized chickens available * You get to choose what sex you want. Quantity - you must order a certain number of chicks. Typically hatcheries will require you buy a minimum of 25 chicks at a time. The number is necessary for the chicks survival during shipping. All 25 chicks are put in one small box without heat. They are crowded in the box and produce enough body heat to arrive in good shape. * The wait - If you choose to buy chicks from a feed store you will have them the same day but if you choose to go with a hatchery you have to wait until they are ready to ship and then wait for the chicks to arrive. Ordering baby chicks online in Berlin North Dakota is easy and has always been a very pleasant experience of me. It can be a little frustrating waiting for the chicks but it's so worth the wait. When the post office calls and you hear all those little "cheeps" or "chirps" in the background you'll know the wait was worth it! How to Care for your new baby chickens in Berlin, North Dakota Baby chicks are very cute and challenging to stand up to, but it's ideal to prepare for their arrival before you obtain them. Prepare first by collecting not only the correct materials, however also the proper knowledge to look after them. Raising baby chicks is reasonably simple, you just have to offer them with the following: A tidy as well as cozy habitat Lots of food as well as water Attention as well as love Habitat Your habitat can be a straightforward box, fish tank, pet cat carrier, or guinea pig cage. Line it with old towels as well as coverings (with no loose strings!) to start, and also after a few weeks utilize straw over newspaper. Keep in mind: Avoid utilizing just paper or other slipper surface areas-- or your chicks legs could grow misshapen. You likewise need something to provide food as well as water in, such as a chicken feeder and also water meal from the feed shop, or a pickle jar cover for food and a family pet bird water dispenser from an animal store. Likewise, as the chicks age you could introduce a perch into the habitat to get them trained on perching. Heat To maintain your chicks warm you should offer them with a warmth source. This can be as easy as a 100 watt light bulb in a reflective clamp design light from a hardware store, or an infrared reptile warmth light bulb likewise work extremely well (my referral). Chicks require this warmth 24/7 up until their downy fluff is replaced with plumes (which can take up to 2 months). The recently hatched require a temperature between 90 and also 100 degrees, and also each week this can be reduced by about 5 levels approximately. The warmth resource ought to be on just one side of the cage to enable chicks an array of temperature levels. The chicks are your finest thermometer- if they are concealing in the opposite corner of your warmth light, you have to minimize the temperature. If they are smothering each other under the heat (not merely curling up), you have to put some heat. Home cleaning Tidiness is crucial and it keeps your chicks healthy and balanced. Make certain to alter the bed linens typically as well as always supply clean food as well as water Food as well as water. Chicks expand quite quickly which requires a lot of tidy food and also water. Give sufficient at all times and check typically to avoid parched and also hungry chicks. Chick food is different than adult chicken food, and it is available in both medicated as well as non-medicated ranges. Feed chick food for the first 2 months, after that switch over to a raiser food (~ 17 % healthy protein) for an additional 2 months, and then to a slightly reduced healthy protein feed or a layer feed (if you have layers). Dirt Some chicks want to obtain a running start on taking dust bathrooms, while others will not use up that task till they are older. If you have the area in your chick unit, present a tray of sand or filth for them to wash in. Interest and also love There are a few benefits to hanging out with your chicks. First of all, they will certainly most likely bond with you and also not run away as grownups. Second, if you analyze your chicks daily as well as view their habits, you can capture disease or various other troubles earlier. Keep an eye out for wheezing, limping, or various other unhealthy signs. Make certain to likewise consider their poop, as looseness of the bowels can cause matted plumes and also blocked cloaca. Lastly, it is essential to watch out for social issues, such as the tiniest chick obtaining teased. Vacant nest syndrome So your chicks are now totally feathered as well as its time for them to leave the safety and security of your home and move outside right into a cage. Have a look at our area on chicken coops to find out more regarding cages and correct cage habitats.
