On Saturday, we butchered 35 meat chickens in 3 1/2  hours!! It was a lot of fun…but a little cold.    Daddy took care of the heads, wings and legs. Jessie, Lyssa and Annie skinned them and Suzanna and Cassie gutted them. At the end we all cut up the pieces and bagged them. Bekah and Charissa were our photographers!!    Here are a few pictures…

All 25 chicks are put in one small box without heat. They are crowded in the box and produce enough body heat to arrive in good shape. * The wait - If you choose to buy chicks from a feed store you will have them the same day but if you choose to go with a hatchery you have to wait until they are ready to ship and then wait for the chicks to arrive. How to Care for your new baby chickens in Rodman, New York Baby chicks are quite cute and tough to stand up to, however it's best to plan for their arrival before you obtain them. Prepare initially by gathering not just the proper materials, but additionally the correct knowledge to take care of them. Raising baby chicks is fairly straightforward, you simply have to supply them with the following: A tidy and cozy habitat A lot of food and also water Attention as well as love Habitat Your environment can be a basic box, aquarium, pet cat provider, or guinea porker cage. Line it with old towels and coverings (without any loosened strings!) to begin, as well as after a couple of weeks utilize straw over newspaper. Note: Avoid making use of just newspaper or other sandal surfaces-- or your chicks legs could expand misshapen. You additionally require something to provide food as well as water in, such as a chicken feeder and also water dish from the feed shop, or a pickle jar lid for food and a pet dog bird water dispenser from a pet shop. Additionally, as the chicks grow older you could present a perch into the habitat to get them trained on setting down. Heat To maintain your chicks heat you need to supply them with a warmth resource. This can be as straightforward as a 100 watt light bulb in a reflective clamp design light from an equipment store, or an infrared reptile heat light bulb additionally function extremely well (my recommendation). Chicks need this warmth 24/7 until their downy fluff is replaced with plumes (which can occupy to two months). The recently hatched require a temperature between 90 as well as 100 degrees, and every week this could be reduced by approximately 5 levels approximately. The heat source should be on just one side of the cage to allow chicks a variety of temperature levels. The chicks are your finest thermometer- if they are hiding in the opposite edge of your warmth light, you need to minimize the temperature level. If they are smothering each other under the heat (not just curling up), you need to include some heat. Housekeeping Cleanliness is key and it maintains your chicks healthy. Make certain to alter the bed linen typically and always give tidy food and water Food as well as water. Chicks grow really quickly which calls for plenty of clean food and also water. Supply sufficient at all times and inspect usually to prevent thirsty and also starving chicks. Chick food is various compared to grown-up chicken food, as well as it comes in both medicated and non-medicated varieties. Feed chick food for the very first two months, after that switch to a grower food (~ 17 % healthy protein) for one more 2 months, then to a somewhat lower protein feed or a layer feed (if you have levels). Soil Some chicks want to get a head start on taking filth baths, while others won't use up that activity till they are older. If you have the area in your chick room, present a tray of sand or filth for them to shower in. Interest and love There are a couple of benefits to spending time with your chicks. To start with, they will most likely bond with you as well as not escape as adults. Second, if you analyze your chicks daily and watch their habits, you can catch ailment or various other problems previously. Watch out for hissing, limping, or other harmful indications. Make certain to likewise consider their poop, as diarrhea can cause matted plumes as well as obstructed cloaca. Finally, it is important to watch out for social problems, such as the littlest chick getting badgered. Empty nest syndrome So your chicks are now totally feathered as well as its time for them to leave the security of your home and also move outside right into a cage. Have a look at our area on chicken cages to learn more about coops and also correct cage habitats.
