On Saturday, we butchered 35 meat chickens in 3 1/2  hours!! It was a lot of fun…but a little cold.    Daddy took care of the heads, wings and legs. Jessie, Lyssa and Annie skinned them and Suzanna and Cassie gutted them. At the end we all cut up the pieces and bagged them. Bekah and Charissa were our photographers!!    Here are a few pictures…

Bantams typically weigh less than 2 pounds when full grown. Just like ordering anything online there are pros and cons to ordering baby chicks online. Pros of buying baby chicks in Colden New York * Big Selection - If you are wanting a large variety of different chicken breeds and egg colors, you will find the best selection at an online hatchery. * Both Bantams and full sized chickens available * You get to choose what sex you want. Quantity - you must order a certain number of chicks. Typically hatcheries will require you buy a minimum of 25 chicks at a time. The number is necessary for the chicks survival during shipping. All 25 chicks are put in one small box without heat. They are crowded in the box and produce enough body heat to arrive in good shape. * The wait - If you choose to buy chicks from a feed store you will have them the same day but if you choose to go with a hatchery you have to wait until they are ready to ship and then wait for the chicks to arrive. Ordering baby chicks online in Colden New York is easy and has always been a very pleasant experience of me. It can be a little frustrating waiting for the chicks but it's so worth the wait. When the post office calls and you hear all those little "cheeps" or "chirps" in the background you'll know the wait was worth it! How to Care for your new baby chickens in Colden, New York Baby chicks are really cute and also challenging to withstand, but it's best to plan for their arrival before you obtain them. Prepare first by collecting not only the proper materials, but also the proper knowledge to take care of them. Raising baby chicks is relatively simple, you just need to offer them with the following: A clean as well as warm environment Plenty of food as well as water Attention and also love Environment Your habitat could be a simple box, aquarium, feline service provider, or guinea porker cage. Line it with old towels as well as blankets (without loosened strings!) to start, and also after a few weeks make use of straw over newspaper. Note: Avoid using only newspaper or various other slipper surface areas-- or your chicks legs can expand malformed. You additionally require something to serve up food as well as water in, such as a chicken feeder and water recipe from the feed store, or a pickle container lid for food and an animal bird water dispenser from a family pet shop. Additionally, as the chicks get older you could present a perch into the environment to get them educated on perching. Heat To maintain your chicks warm you need to give them with a heat source. This can be as easy as a 100 watt light bulb in a reflective clamp design light from a hardware store, or an infrared reptile warmth light bulb additionally work effectively (my recommendation). Chicks require this heat 24/7 up until their downy fluff is replaced with feathers (which can occupy to two months). The recently hatched out need a temperature between 90 as well as 100 degrees, and also every week this could be reduced by about 5 degrees approximately. The warmth resource ought to get on merely one side of the cage to allow chicks a range of temperatures. The chicks are your best thermometer- if they are concealing in the other edge of your warmth light, you should lower the temperature level. If they are surrounding each other under the warmth (not merely snuggling), you should put some warmth. House cleaning Tidiness is key and it maintains your chicks healthy and balanced. Make certain to change the bed linen usually as well as constantly offer tidy food and water Food and also water. Chicks expand extremely quick which calls for lots of tidy food and water. Provide enough in any way times and check frequently to stop parched as well as hungry chicks. Chick food is various than grown-up chicken food, and also it comes in both medicated as well as non-medicated varieties. Feed chick food for the first 2 months, then switch over to a raiser food (~ 17 % healthy protein) for one more 2 months, and after that to a somewhat lower protein feed or a level feed (if you have levels). Dirt Some chicks prefer to obtain a running start on taking dust baths, while others won't use up that activity until they are older. If you have the space in your chick unit, introduce a tray of sand or dirt for them to wash in. Attention and love There are a couple of benefits to spending time with your chicks. First of all, they will certainly most likely bond with you and not escape as grownups. Second, if you analyze your chicks daily and also view their actions, you could catch disease or various other problems previously. Watch out for hissing, limping, or other unhealthy signs. Be sure to also consider their poop, as looseness of the bowels can result in matted feathers and blocked cloaca. Lastly, it is very important to watch out for social problems, such as the smallest chick obtaining picked on. Vacant nest syndrome So your chicks are currently totally feathered as well as its time for them to leave the safety of your house as well as relocate outside into a cage. Have a look at our section on chicken cages to get more information about cages and also appropriate cage environments.
