On Saturday, we butchered 35 meat chickens in 3 1/2  hours!! It was a lot of fun…but a little cold.    Daddy took care of the heads, wings and legs. Jessie, Lyssa and Annie skinned them and Suzanna and Cassie gutted them. At the end we all cut up the pieces and bagged them. Bekah and Charissa were our photographers!!    Here are a few pictures…

Quantity - you must order a certain number of chicks. Typically hatcheries will require you buy a minimum of 25 chicks at a time. The number is necessary for the chicks survival during shipping. All 25 chicks are put in one small box without heat. They are crowded in the box and produce enough body heat to arrive in good shape. * The wait - If you choose to buy chicks from a feed store you will have them the same day but if you choose to go with a hatchery you have to wait until they are ready to ship and then wait for the chicks to arrive. Ordering baby chicks online in Cranbury New Jersey is easy and has always been a very pleasant experience of me. It can be a little frustrating waiting for the chicks but it's so worth the wait. When the post office calls and you hear all those little "cheeps" or "chirps" in the background you'll know the wait was worth it! How to Care for your new baby chickens in Cranbury, New Jersey Baby chicks are quite charming and also tough to withstand, however it's ideal to prepare for their arrival before you obtain them. Prepare first by gathering not just the appropriate products, yet likewise the appropriate knowledge to take care of them. Raising baby chicks is relatively straightforward, you merely have to offer them with the following: A clean and cozy habitat Lots of food and water Interest and love Environment Your habitat could be a simple box, aquarium, pet cat carrier, or guinea pig cage. Line it with old towels and coverings (with no loosened strings!) to start, and after a couple of weeks use straw over paper. Note: Avoid making use of just paper or other sandal surfaces-- or your chicks legs can expand misshapen. You also need something to provide food as well as water in, such as a chicken feeder as well as water recipe from the feed shop, or a pickle jar lid for food as well as a pet dog bird water dispenser from a pet dog shop. Likewise, as the chicks get older you can introduce a perch into the habitat to get them educated on perching. Heat To maintain your chicks heat you should offer them with a warmth resource. This can be as basic as a 100 watt light bulb in a reflective clamp style lamp from a hardware shop, or an infrared reptile warmth light bulb additionally function very well (my suggestion). Chicks need this heat 24/7 until their downy fluff is changed with plumes (which could take up to 2 months). The newly hatched out need a temperature level in between 90 and also 100 degrees, and every week this could be minimized by about 5 degrees approximately. The warmth source ought to be on merely one side of the cage to permit chicks an array of temperature levels. The chicks are your finest thermostat- if they are hiding in the contrary edge of your warmth light, you have to reduce the temperature. If they are surrounding each other under the warmth (not merely cuddling), you should include some heat. House cleaning Sanitation is crucial and it maintains your chicks healthy. Make certain to alter the bed linens usually as well as consistently offer tidy food and water Food as well as water. Chicks grow really quick which needs lots of clean food and water. Provide enough in any way times as well as inspect often to avoid parched as well as starving chicks. Chick food is various compared to adult chicken food, and also it is available in both medicated and also non-medicated selections. Feed chick food for the first two months, after that switch over to a grower food (~ 17 % protein) for one more 2 months, then to a somewhat reduced protein feed or a level feed (if you have layers). Soil Some chicks like to get a running start on taking filth bathrooms, while others won't use up that activity until they are older. If you have the room in your chick room, present a tray of sand or dirt for them to shower in. Focus as well as love There are a couple of advantages to hanging out with your chicks. First off, they will certainly probably bond with you as well as not run away as grownups. Second, if you examine your chicks daily and also watch their actions, you can catch disease or other troubles previously. Watch out for hissing, limping, or various other unhealthy indicators. Make sure to likewise check out their poop, as looseness of the bowels can cause matted plumes and also blocked cloaca. Lastly, it is necessary to keep an eye out for social issues, such as the smallest chick getting picked on. Vacant nest syndrome So your chicks are now totally feathered as well as its time for them to leave the safety of your residence as well as move outside into a cage. Take a look at our part on chicken coops to get more information regarding coops as well as proper cage environments.
