Yep, I’m that kind of guy. I guess I just like the kind of chicks that hang out at the fair. What can I say?
HaHa… actually I hope you know I’m just playing with words there! We got a small batch of chicks (that’s baby chickens… just in case you didn’t know) from the County Fair. What happens at the fair is that they have an educational booth with eggs in a big see through incubator. These eggs hatch and the kids all go nuts. They love it. For the few days that the exhibit run they must hatch a few hundred chicks. These chicks are put in a large open display for the kids to look at.
If you find yourself at a County Fair with this type of exhibit, ask the volunteer if the chicks are for sale afterwards. At our Fair they have a list that you can put your name on. At closing time on the final day you stand in line ready to pay $0.50 per chick! Wow, that’s cheap 🙂
Enjoy here a short video showing the chicks after a few weeks.
and here is the young rooster after finding his voice!

Baby Chickens
And Ducks For Sale in
Allentown, New Jersey
Thumbing through a baby chickens for sale in Allentown New Jersey
catalog is a yearly traditions in many houses. My kids and I eagerly await
the Murray McMurray Hatchery catalog. We love looking at all the cool and
different chicken breeds available. Catalogs are free so head on over to
their site and request one if you are interested.
Typically hatcheries online offer both standard breeds
and bantams. Bantams are fun hardy little chickens, they lay tiny eggs
that kids especially love collecting. Bantams typically weigh less than 2
pounds when full grown. Just like ordering anything online there are pros
and cons to ordering baby chicks online. Pros of buying baby chicks in
Allentown New Jersey * Big Selection - If you are wanting a large
variety of different chicken breeds and egg colors, you will find the best
selection at an online hatchery. * Both Bantams and full sized chickens
available * You get to choose what sex you want. If you want a mixture of
both male and female then choosing a "straight run" will save you money
and you will get a mixture of male and female chicks. You can also choose
all males or all females too. * Weekly specials. Hatcheries have sales on
chicks, you are likely to get a good deal if you are flexible with the
breeds you are wanting. Cons of buying baby chicks in Allentown
New Jersey * Order early to get the best selection. Certain breeds sell
out fast, sometimes as early as 6 months in advance of shipping! If you
are wanting a certain breed it's best to order your chicks in the fall
before their orders sell out.
Baby
Chickens Care in
Allentown, New Jersey
Quantity - you must order a certain number of chicks. Typically hatcheries
will require you buy a minimum of 25 chicks at a time. The number is
necessary for the chicks survival during shipping. All 25 chicks are put
in one small box without heat. They are crowded in the box and produce
enough body heat to arrive in good shape. * The wait - If you choose to
buy chicks from a feed store you will have them the same day but if you
choose to go with a hatchery you have to wait until they are ready to ship
and then wait for the chicks to arrive. Ordering baby chicks online in
Allentown New Jersey is easy and has always been a very pleasant
experience of me. It can be a little frustrating waiting for the chicks
but it's so worth the wait. When the post office calls and you hear all
those little "cheeps" or "chirps" in the background you'll know the wait
was worth it! How to Care for your new baby chickens in Allentown,
New Jersey Baby chicks are really
cute as well as
difficult to resist,
but it's ideal to plan for their
arrival prior to you obtain them. Prepare first
by compiling not just the
proper products, yet
likewise the appropriate
expertise to care for
them. Raising baby chicks is fairly
straightforward, you just need
to offer them with the following: A
clean as well as warm
environment Lots of food and water Focus and also
love Environment Your environment can be a basic box, fish tank,
cat service provider, or guinea
porker cage. Line it with old towels and also
coverings (without loose
strings!) to begin, as well as after a few weeks make use of straw over newspaper.
Note: Avoid using only
paper or various other slipper
surfaces-- or your chicks legs can grow
malformed. You likewise require
something to provide food as well as
water in, such as a chicken feeder as well as water
meal from the feed store, or a pickle jar
cover for food and also a pet dog bird water dispenser from a pet store. Likewise, as the chicks get
older you could present a perch
into the habitat to obtain them
trained on perching. Heat To
maintain your chicks heat you should
provide them with a heat source.
This can be as basic as a 100 watt
light bulb in a reflective clamp design lamp from an equipment store, or an infrared reptile warmth
light bulb likewise work extremely well (my
recommendation). Chicks need this
heat 24/7 until their downy fluff is
replaced with feathers (which can take up to two months). The freshly
hatched out require a temperature
in between 90 as well as 100 levels,
and weekly this can
be reduced by
approximately 5 levels approximately. The heat resource ought
to be on just one side of the cage
to permit chicks an array of
temperature levels. The chicks are your finest
thermostat- if they are concealing in the
opposite corner of your heat
light, you have to
lower the temperature level. If
they are surrounding each other under the
heat (not merely snuggling),
you should put some warmth.
Home cleaning
Tidiness is key and also it maintains your chicks healthy. Make certain to alter
the bedding
often and also
constantly supply clean
food and water Food and water.
Chicks grow really quick
which needs plenty of tidy
food and also water. Give
sufficient at all times and inspect
often to avoid thirsty as well as
hungry chicks. Chick food is various than grown-up chicken food, as well as it comes
in both medicated and non-medicated varieties. Feed chick food for the
initial 2 months, then
change to a raiser food (~ 17 %
protein) for another 2 months,
then to a slightly
reduced protein feed or a layer feed
(if you have layers). Soil Some chicks prefer to get a head start on taking
filth baths, while others won't take
up that task till they are
older. If you have the room in your chick
room, introduce a tray of sand or
dust for them to shower in.
Focus and love There are a couple of advantages to hanging
out with your chicks. First of all, they will more than likely bond with you and also
not run away as grownups. Second, if you
examine your chicks daily and also
enjoy their actions, you could
catch health problem or other issues previously. Keep an
eye out for hissing, limping, or
other harmful
indicators. Be sure to
likewise consider
their poop, as looseness of the bowels can bring about matted feathers as well
as obstructed cloaca.
Finally, it is important to keep an eye out for social concerns, such as the
littlest chick getting picked
on. Vacant nest syndrome So your
chicks are currently fully feathered
and its time for them to leave the
security of your house
and also relocate outside right into a
coop. Take a look at our
section on chicken coops to find out
more
about cages and also
proper coop habitats.
