New Baby Chicks Have Arrived

I just had to share some pictures of our newest babies.  They are black sexlinks and one golden sexlink.  They are sooo cute.  We just got them yesterday, but they are 10 days old.  Since it has done nothing but rain, 2.75 inches between yesterday and today, they are safe and dry in the garage.  When everything dries out they will go to the outdoor brooder.

I’ll post more pictures as time goes.

Bantams typically weigh less than 2 pounds when full grown. Just like ordering anything online there are pros and cons to ordering baby chicks online. Pros of buying baby chicks in Syracuse Nebraska * Big Selection - If you are wanting a large variety of different chicken breeds and egg colors, you will find the best selection at an online hatchery. * Both Bantams and full sized chickens available * You get to choose what sex you want. Quantity - you must order a certain number of chicks. Typically hatcheries will require you buy a minimum of 25 chicks at a time. The number is necessary for the chicks survival during shipping. All 25 chicks are put in one small box without heat. They are crowded in the box and produce enough body heat to arrive in good shape. * The wait - If you choose to buy chicks from a feed store you will have them the same day but if you choose to go with a hatchery you have to wait until they are ready to ship and then wait for the chicks to arrive. Ordering baby chicks online in Syracuse Nebraska is easy and has always been a very pleasant experience of me. It can be a little frustrating waiting for the chicks but it's so worth the wait. When the post office calls and you hear all those little "cheeps" or "chirps" in the background you'll know the wait was worth it! How to Care for your new baby chickens in Syracuse, Nebraska Baby chicks are quite charming as well as tough to withstand, but it's best to prepare for their arrival prior to you get them. Prepare first by collecting not only the appropriate materials, but additionally the correct expertise to look after them. Raising baby chicks is relatively basic, you simply have to provide them with the following: A tidy and warm and comfortable environment A lot of food and also water Attention and also love Environment Your environment can be a simple box, fish tank, feline service provider, or guinea pig cage. Line it with old towels as well as blankets (without loosened strings!) to start, as well as after a few weeks use straw over paper. Note: Avoid using just paper or other slipper surfaces-- or your chicks legs could grow malformed. You also require something to serve up food as well as water in, such as a chicken feeder as well as water meal from the feed store, or a pickle jar cover for food and a family pet bird water dispenser from a family pet shop. Likewise, as the chicks grow older you can present a perch right into the environment to obtain them educated on perching. Warmth To keep your chicks warm you should supply them with a heat resource. This could be as simple as a 100 watt light bulb in a reflective clamp style lamp from a hardware store, or an infrared reptile warmth bulb also work extremely well (my referral). Chicks require this heat 24/7 up until their downy fluff is changed with feathers (which could use up to 2 months). The freshly hatched require a temperature in between 90 and 100 degrees, and every week this could be minimized by roughly 5 degrees approximately. The warmth resource must be on simply one side of the cage to allow chicks a variety of temperatures. The chicks are your finest thermostat- if they are hiding in the contrary edge of your heat light, you need to reduce the temperature level. If they are surrounding each other under the heat (not simply curling up), you need to add some heat. House cleaning Sanitation is crucial and it maintains your chicks healthy and balanced. Make sure to transform the bed linen frequently and always supply tidy food and water Food and also water. Chicks grow quite fast which calls for plenty of tidy food and also water. Provide sufficient at all times as well as examine usually to prevent parched as well as hungry chicks. Chick food is various than adult chicken food, and also it comes in both medicated and also non-medicated varieties. Feed chick food for the initial 2 months, after that switch to a grower food (~ 17 % healthy protein) for one more 2 months, and then to a somewhat lower healthy protein feed or a level feed (if you have layers). Soil Some chicks like to get a head start on taking dust baths, while others won't take up that activity up until they are older. If you have the room in your chick enclosure, present a tray of sand or dust for them to wash in. Attention as well as love There are a few advantages to spending quality time with your chicks. Firstly, they will certainly most likely bond with you and not escape as grownups. Second, if you examine your chicks daily as well as enjoy their actions, you could capture ailment or various other problems earlier. Watch out for wheezing, hopping, or other undesirable signs. Make sure to likewise check out their poop, as diarrhea can result in matted plumes as well as blocked cloaca. Last but not least, it is important to watch out for social issues, such as the smallest chick getting teased. Vacant nest disorder So your chicks are now totally feathery as well as its time for them to leave the safety of your home and also relocate outside into a cage.
