On Saturday, we butchered 35 meat chickens in 3 1/2  hours!! It was a lot of fun…but a little cold.    Daddy took care of the heads, wings and legs. Jessie, Lyssa and Annie skinned them and Suzanna and Cassie gutted them. At the end we all cut up the pieces and bagged them. Bekah and Charissa were our photographers!!    Here are a few pictures…

Pros of buying baby chicks in Bradleyville Missouri * Big Selection - If you are wanting a large variety of different chicken breeds and egg colors, you will find the best selection at an online hatchery. * Both Bantams and full sized chickens available * You get to choose what sex you want. Quantity - you must order a certain number of chicks. Typically hatcheries will require you buy a minimum of 25 chicks at a time. The number is necessary for the chicks survival during shipping. All 25 chicks are put in one small box without heat. They are crowded in the box and produce enough body heat to arrive in good shape. * The wait - If you choose to buy chicks from a feed store you will have them the same day but if you choose to go with a hatchery you have to wait until they are ready to ship and then wait for the chicks to arrive. Ordering baby chicks online in Bradleyville Missouri is easy and has always been a very pleasant experience of me. It can be a little frustrating waiting for the chicks but it's so worth the wait. When the post office calls and you hear all those little "cheeps" or "chirps" in the background you'll know the wait was worth it! How to Care for your new baby chickens in Bradleyville, Missouri Baby chicks are quite adorable and difficult to withstand, but it's ideal to prepare for their arrival prior to you get them. Prepare initially by compiling not just the right materials, yet likewise the appropriate expertise to take care of them. Raising baby chicks is relatively basic, you simply should provide them with the following: A tidy as well as warm habitat Lots of food and water Interest and also love Environment Your environment can be a simple box, aquarium, feline provider, or guinea porker cage. Line it with old towels and blankets (with no loose strings!) to start, as well as after a few weeks use straw over newspaper. Note: Avoid utilizing only paper or various other sandal surface areas-- or your chicks legs could grow malformed. You additionally require something to dish out food and water in, such as a chicken feeder as well as water meal from the feed shop, or a pickle jar cover for food and a pet dog bird water dispenser from a family pet shop. Additionally, as the chicks age you can introduce a perch right into the environment to obtain them educated on setting down. Heat To keep your chicks heat you need to supply them with a heat resource. This could be as straightforward as a 100 watt light bulb in a reflective clamp design lamp from an equipment store, or an infrared reptile heat bulb also function extremely well (my referral). Chicks require this warmth 24/7 up until their downy fluff is changed with feathers (which could take up to two months). The freshly hatched out need a temperature level in between 90 as well as 100 degrees, as well as each week this could be lowered by around 5 degrees approximately. The heat source need to be on merely one side of the cage to permit chicks a variety of temperature levels. The chicks are your ideal thermostat- if they are hiding in the other edge of your heat lamp, you have to minimize the temperature level. If they are smothering each other under the heat (not just snuggling), you should include some warmth. Housekeeping Cleanliness is essential and also it maintains your chicks healthy and balanced. Be sure to alter the bedding usually and consistently supply tidy food and also water Food as well as water. Chicks grow extremely fast which calls for plenty of tidy food and also water. Supply enough at all times as well as check often to stop dehydrated and also hungry chicks. Chick food is different compared to grown-up chicken food, and also it can be found in both medicated and non-medicated varieties. Feed chick food for the very first 2 months, after that switch over to a raiser food (~ 17 % protein) for an additional 2 months, and afterwards to a slightly lower healthy protein feed or a level feed (if you have layers). Soil Some chicks like to obtain a running start on taking filth bathrooms, while others won't take up that task up until they are older. If you have the area in your chick room, present a tray of sand or filth for them to wash in. Focus as well as love There are a few advantages to spending quality time with your chicks. Firstly, they will probably bond with you as well as not run away as grownups. Second, if you analyze your chicks daily and also enjoy their actions, you could capture ailment or various other troubles earlier. Watch out for hissing, limping, or other unhealthy signs. Be sure to additionally look at their poop, as looseness of the bowels could cause matted plumes as well as stopped up cloaca. Last but not least, it is essential to keep an eye out for social problems, such as the smallest chick getting teased. Empty nest disorder So your chicks are now completely feathery and its time for them to leave the security of your home and also move outside right into a cage. Have a look at our part on chicken cages to learn more concerning coops as well as appropriate cage habitats.
