On Saturday, we butchered 35 meat chickens in 3 1/2  hours!! It was a lot of fun…but a little cold.    Daddy took care of the heads, wings and legs. Jessie, Lyssa and Annie skinned them and Suzanna and Cassie gutted them. At the end we all cut up the pieces and bagged them. Bekah and Charissa were our photographers!!    Here are a few pictures…

MSTypically hatcheries online offer both standard breeds and bantams. Bantams are fun hardy little chickens, they lay tiny eggs that kids especially love collecting. Bantams typically weigh less than 2 pounds when full grown. Just like ordering anything online there are pros and cons to ordering baby chicks online. Pros of buying baby chicks in Steens Mississippi * Big Selection - If you are wanting a large variety of different chicken breeds and egg colors, you will find the best selection at an online hatchery. * Both Bantams and full sized chickens available * You get to choose what sex you want. Quantity - you must order a certain number of chicks. Typically hatcheries will require you buy a minimum of 25 chicks at a time. The number is necessary for the chicks survival during shipping. All 25 chicks are put in one small box without heat. They are crowded in the box and produce enough body heat to arrive in good shape. * The wait - If you choose to buy chicks from a feed store you will have them the same day but if you choose to go with a hatchery you have to wait until they are ready to ship and then wait for the chicks to arrive. Ordering baby chicks online in Steens Mississippi is easy and has always been a very pleasant experience of me. It can be a little frustrating waiting for the chicks but it's so worth the wait. When the post office calls and you hear all those little "cheeps" or "chirps" in the background you'll know the wait was worth it! How to Care for your new baby chickens in Steens, Mississippi Baby chicks are quite charming as well as difficult to stand up to, but it's ideal to prepare for their arrival prior to you get them. Prepare initially by gathering not just the proper products, but additionally the proper understanding to look after them. Raising baby chicks is fairly straightforward, you merely should supply them with the following: A clean as well as warm environment Lots of food and also water Interest and also love Environment Your habitat could be a simple box, fish tank, cat carrier, or guinea pig cage. Line it with old towels as well as coverings (without any loosened strings!) to begin, as well as after a few weeks use straw over newspaper. Keep in mind: Avoid making use of only paper or other slipper surfaces-- or your chicks legs can grow malformed. You likewise need something to provide food and water in, such as a chicken feeder and water meal from the feed store, or a pickle container lid for food and an animal bird water dispenser from a family pet shop. Additionally, as the chicks get older you could introduce a perch into the habitat to obtain them trained on perching. Heat To keep your chicks heat you need to give them with a warmth resource. This can be as straightforward as a 100 watt light bulb in a reflective clamp design lamp from an equipment shop, or an infrared reptile heat bulb likewise work very well (my recommendation). Chicks need this warmth 24/7 till their downy fluff is changed with feathers (which could use up to two months). The freshly hatched require a temperature level between 90 and 100 levels, and also every week this can be minimized by around 5 degrees or so. The heat source need to get on just one side of the cage to permit chicks a variety of temperature levels. The chicks are your ideal thermometer- if they are hiding in the other corner of your heat lamp, you should reduce the temperature level. If they are surrounding each various other under the heat (not merely curling up), you have to include some heat. Housekeeping Tidiness is vital as well as it maintains your chicks healthy and balanced. Make sure to transform the bed linen often and always offer clean food and also water Food and also water. Chicks grow really quickly which requires a lot of tidy food and also water. Offer enough in any way times and inspect typically to stop parched as well as starving chicks. Chick food is different compared to grown-up chicken food, and it can be found in both medicated as well as non-medicated varieties. Feed chick food for the initial two months, then switch to a grower food (~ 17 % healthy protein) for one more 2 months, and afterwards to a slightly reduced healthy protein feed or a level feed (if you have levels). Dirt Some chicks prefer to get a head start on taking filth baths, while others will not occupy that task up until they are older. If you have the area in your chick room, introduce a tray of sand or dust for them to shower in. Focus and love There are a few advantages to spending quality time with your chicks. First of all, they will probably bond with you and also not run away as adults. Second, if you examine your chicks daily and watch their behavior, you could capture health problem or various other troubles earlier. Watch out for hissing, limping, or other unhealthy indications. Be sure to likewise look at their poop, as looseness of the bowels can result in matted plumes and stopped up cloaca. Finally, it is very important to keep an eye out for social problems, such as the tiniest chick obtaining picked on. Vacant nest syndrome So your chicks are now totally feathered and also its time for them to leave the safety of your home and move outside into a cage. Take a look at our area on chicken cages for more information regarding coops and also appropriate coop habitats.
