On Saturday, we butchered 35 meat chickens in 3 1/2  hours!! It was a lot of fun…but a little cold.    Daddy took care of the heads, wings and legs. Jessie, Lyssa and Annie skinned them and Suzanna and Cassie gutted them. At the end we all cut up the pieces and bagged them. Bekah and Charissa were our photographers!!    Here are a few pictures…

MNTypically hatcheries online offer both standard breeds and bantams. Bantams are fun hardy little chickens, they lay tiny eggs that kids especially love collecting. Bantams typically weigh less than 2 pounds when full grown. Just like ordering anything online there are pros and cons to ordering baby chicks online. Pros of buying baby chicks in Prior Lake Minnesota * Big Selection - If you are wanting a large variety of different chicken breeds and egg colors, you will find the best selection at an online hatchery. * Both Bantams and full sized chickens available * You get to choose what sex you want. Quantity - you must order a certain number of chicks. Typically hatcheries will require you buy a minimum of 25 chicks at a time. The number is necessary for the chicks survival during shipping. All 25 chicks are put in one small box without heat. They are crowded in the box and produce enough body heat to arrive in good shape. * The wait - If you choose to buy chicks from a feed store you will have them the same day but if you choose to go with a hatchery you have to wait until they are ready to ship and then wait for the chicks to arrive. Ordering baby chicks online in Prior Lake Minnesota is easy and has always been a very pleasant experience of me. It can be a little frustrating waiting for the chicks but it's so worth the wait. When the post office calls and you hear all those little "cheeps" or "chirps" in the background you'll know the wait was worth it! How to Care for your new baby chickens in Prior Lake, Minnesota Baby chicks are extremely charming and hard to resist, however it's ideal to plan for their arrival prior to you get them. Prepare initially by gathering not only the right materials, but additionally the proper knowledge to take care of them. Raising baby chicks is reasonably basic, you just need to offer them with the following: A clean and also cozy environment Lots of food and water Attention as well as love Habitat Your environment could be a straightforward box, aquarium, feline provider, or guinea pig cage. Line it with old towels and coverings (with no loose strings!) to begin, and also after a few weeks use straw over paper. Keep in mind: Avoid making use of just paper or various other sandal surfaces-- or your chicks legs can expand malformed. You likewise require something to serve up food as well as water in, such as a chicken feeder and water dish from the feed shop, or a pickle jar lid for food as well as an animal bird water dispenser from a pet dog shop. Likewise, as the chicks grow older you could present a perch right into the environment to get them trained on setting down. Warmth To maintain your chicks warm you should offer them with a warmth resource. This can be as straightforward as a 100 watt light bulb in a reflective clamp style lamp from an equipment store, or an infrared reptile heat bulb additionally work very well (my recommendation). Chicks require this warmth 24/7 until their downy fluff is replaced with feathers (which could take up to 2 months). The newly hatched out require a temperature level between 90 and 100 degrees, and also every week this can be decreased by around 5 degrees approximately. The warmth resource ought to be on just one side of the cage to enable chicks an array of temperature levels. The chicks are your ideal thermometer- if they are hiding in the opposite corner of your warmth light, you need to lower the temperature level. If they are smothering each other under the warmth (not simply cuddling), you have to include some warmth. Home cleaning Cleanliness is essential as well as it keeps your chicks healthy and balanced. Make sure to change the bed linens commonly as well as consistently supply tidy food as well as water Food and also water. Chicks expand really quickly which needs lots of clean food and also water. Give enough whatsoever times as well as inspect typically to prevent dehydrated and also starving chicks. Chick food is different compared to adult chicken food, and it comes in both medicated and non-medicated selections. Feed chick food for the initial 2 months, after that change to a raiser food (~ 17 % healthy protein) for one more 2 months, and after that to a slightly reduced healthy protein feed or a level feed (if you have levels). Soil Some chicks want to get a running start on taking filth bathrooms, while others won't use up that task till they are older. If you have the room in your chick enclosure, present a tray of sand or dirt for them to shower in. Attention and also love There are a couple of advantages to spending time with your chicks. First off, they will certainly probably bond with you and also not run away as grownups. Second, if you analyze your chicks daily and enjoy their behavior, you could catch illness or various other problems previously. Watch out for wheezing, hopping, or various other harmful indicators. Make sure to likewise look at their poop, as diarrhea could bring about matted feathers as well as blocked cloaca. Finally, it is essential to look out for social issues, such as the littlest chick obtaining picked on. Empty nest disorder So your chicks are now totally feathery as well as its time for them to leave the security of your house and also move outside right into a coop. Look into our area on chicken coops to find out more concerning cages as well as appropriate coop habitats.
