The chickens are eating out of my hand!!!!

Baby steps here.  These chickens need to learn that I am a friendly caring benefactor, and not a scary creepygrabber.  And pretty much the only way into the heart of a chicken is through their stomach.  I’ve started going out to check on them every morning and evening, and giving them treats of some sort, usually a handful of cracked corn.  Over the course of the last several days, they have realized that when I come out to see them, they will be getting treats, and they respond accordingly.  They now walk up to the door of the enclosure and talk at me in quiet little honks.  I have slowly been broadcasting the corn for them closer and closer to myself, and finally yesterday they started eating out of my hand.  I’m aware that I am reaching facebook parent level obsession, but I’m not forcing you to watch the video.  But you know, you can if you want to!

How to Care for your new baby chickens in Coopersville, Michigan Baby chicks are really charming and also difficult to stand up to, yet it's finest to prepare for their arrival prior to you obtain them. Prepare first by compiling not only the correct materials, but also the appropriate knowledge to care for them. Raising baby chicks is fairly simple, you simply should supply them with the following: A clean and also warm environment Plenty of food as well as water Attention and also love Habitat Your habitat can be a straightforward box, aquarium, pet cat carrier, or guinea porker cage. Line it with old towels and blankets (without any loose strings!) to begin, and also after a few weeks utilize straw over newspaper. Keep in mind: Avoid using only paper or various other sandal surfaces-- or your chicks legs could expand misshapen. You likewise need something to serve up food and water in, such as a chicken feeder and also water dish from the feed store, or a pickle jar lid for food and also a pet dog bird water dispenser from a family pet shop. Also, as the chicks age you can introduce a perch right into the habitat to obtain them trained on perching. Warmth To keep your chicks warm you have to give them with a warmth resource. This can be as basic as a 100 watt light bulb in a reflective clamp design lamp from an equipment shop, or an infrared reptile warmth bulb also work extremely well (my recommendation). Chicks require this warmth 24/7 until their downy fluff is replaced with feathers (which can use up to two months). The newly hatched out require a temperature between 90 and also 100 degrees, and also weekly this could be lowered by approximately 5 levels approximately. The warmth resource need to be on simply one side of the cage to allow chicks an array of temperature levels. The chicks are your ideal thermometer- if they are hiding in the other edge of your warmth light, you have to minimize the temperature level. If they are surrounding each various other under the warmth (not simply curling up), you need to include some heat. House cleaning Sanitation is key and it maintains your chicks healthy and balanced. Make sure to change the bed linens commonly and also consistently supply tidy food and also water Food and also water. Chicks expand very fast which needs plenty of clean food and also water. Supply sufficient at all times as well as examine usually to prevent dehydrated and also hungry chicks. Feed chick food for the first two months, after that switch to a raiser food (~ 17 % protein) for an additional 2 months, and then to a slightly lower protein feed or a level feed (if you have layers). Dirt Some chicks want to obtain a head start on taking filth baths, while others will not take up that activity until they are older. If you have the area in your chick room, present a tray of sand or filth for them to wash in. Attention and love There are a few advantages to spending quality time with your chicks. First off, they will certainly more than likely bond with you and also not flee as grownups.
