A few months back we got 8 new hens to add to the coop. They were only 5 months old. They are now 7 and should be laying pretty soon. Its fun watching them grow up.
Isn’t she pretty??? She is a White Rock pullet.
These beautiful red ones are Buff Orpington pullets.
They are very cautious with Chad in the coop with them. They are getting used to us.
We have these girls sectioned off in part of the coop. Away from the other 9 older hens we have. They will soon be all introduced and leave the two sections open together. But for now they the pullets are together till they start laying. Then we will have them with the older hens.
This cutie is our Plymouth Rock hen. She is the only black/white one we have
The all black hen is a Black Copper Maran and the black/red are actually Black Sex Link Hens.
All the older girls hanging out together.
One big happy hen family. We now have 17 girls 9 are laying and waiting on the other 8 to start. Can’t wait till they do!!
Love having back yard chickens!!

Thumbing through a baby chickens for sale in Gilliam Louisiana
catalog is a yearly traditions in many houses. My kids and I eagerly await
the Murray McMurray Hatchery catalog. We love looking at all the cool and
different chicken breeds available. Catalogs are free so head on over to
their site and request one if you are interested.
Typically hatcheries online offer both standard breeds
and bantams. Bantams are fun hardy little chickens, they lay tiny eggs
that kids especially love collecting. Bantams typically weigh less than 2
pounds when full grown. Just like ordering anything online there are pros
and cons to ordering baby chicks online. Pros of buying baby chicks in
Gilliam Louisiana * Big Selection - If you are wanting a large
variety of different chicken breeds and egg colors, you will find the best
selection at an online hatchery. * Both Bantams and full sized chickens
available * You get to choose what sex you want. If you want a mixture of
both male and female then choosing a "straight run" will save you money
and you will get a mixture of male and female chicks. You can also choose
all males or all females too. * Weekly specials. Hatcheries have sales on
chicks, you are likely to get a good deal if you are flexible with the
breeds you are wanting. Cons of buying baby chicks in Gilliam
Louisiana * Order early to get the best selection. Certain breeds sell
out fast, sometimes as early as 6 months in advance of shipping! If you
are wanting a certain breed it's best to order your chicks in the fall
before their orders sell out.

Gilliam, Louisiana
Quantity - you must order a certain number of chicks. Typically hatcheries
will require you buy a minimum of 25 chicks at a time. The number is
necessary for the chicks survival during shipping. All 25 chicks are put
in one small box without heat. They are crowded in the box and produce
enough body heat to arrive in good shape. * The wait - If you choose to
buy chicks from a feed store you will have them the same day but if you
choose to go with a hatchery you have to wait until they are ready to ship
and then wait for the chicks to arrive. Ordering baby chicks online in
Gilliam Louisiana is easy and has always been a very pleasant
experience of me. It can be a little frustrating waiting for the chicks
but it's so worth the wait. When the post office calls and you hear all
those little "cheeps" or "chirps" in the background you'll know the wait
was worth it! How to Care for your new baby chickens in Gilliam,
Louisiana Baby chicks are extremely
charming and also
tough to withstand,
but it's ideal to prepare for their
arrival prior to you obtain them. Prepare first
by compiling not just the
correct materials, however
also the correct
expertise to care for
them. Raising baby chicks is relatively
basic, you simply should provide them with the following: A tidy and cozy
environment Plenty of food and also water Interest and
love Habitat Your habitat can be a basic box, aquarium,
cat service provider, or guinea
pig cage. Line it with old towels and
coverings (without loosened
strings!) to start, and also after a few weeks use straw over paper.
Note: Avoid using just
newspaper or other slipper
surfaces-- or your chicks legs could grow
misshapen. You additionally require
something to dish out food and
water in, such as a chicken feeder and also water
recipe from the feed shop, or a pickle jar
lid for food as well as a pet bird water dispenser from a pet shop. Likewise, as the chicks age you could present a perch
right into the environment to obtain them
trained on setting down. Warmth To
keep your chicks warm you have to
give them with a heat source.
This can be as simple as a 100 watt
light bulb in a reflective clamp style light from an equipment store, or an infrared reptile warmth
light bulb also function effectively (my
referral). Chicks require this
heat 24/7 until their downy fluff is
changed with feathers (which could occupy to two months). The recently
hatched need a temperature level
in between 90 and also 100 levels,
as well as every week this could
be minimized by
approximately 5 levels approximately. The warmth source must be on just one side of the cage
to enable chicks an array of
temperature levels. The chicks are your finest
thermostat- if they are concealing in the
opposite edge of your heat
light, you need to
reduce the temperature. If
they are smothering each various other under the
heat (not just curling up),
you need to add some warmth.
Home cleaning
Cleanliness is vital and also it keeps your chicks healthy. Make certain to alter
the bedding
often and also
constantly give clean
food and water Food and water.
Chicks grow really quick
which needs lots of clean
food and also water. Provide
sufficient whatsoever times and also check
typically to
stop thirsty and also
hungry chicks. Chick food is different compared
to adult chicken food, as well as it can be found in both medicated and
also non-medicated varieties. Feed chick food for the
very first two months, after that
change to a grower food (~ 17 %
protein) for an additional 2 months,
and afterwards to a slightly
lower protein feed or a layer feed
(if you have layers). Dirt Some chicks prefer to get a head start on taking
dust bathrooms, while others won't occupy that activity until they are
older. If you have the room in your chick
unit, introduce a tray of sand or
dust for them to bathe in.
Interest and also love There are a couple of benefits to hanging
out with your chicks. First of all, they will certainly more than likely bond with you as well as
not run away as adults. Second, if you
examine your chicks daily as well as
view their habits, you can
catch health problem or various
other problems earlier. Keep an
eye out for hissing, hopping, or
various other harmful
signs. Make certain to
likewise take a look at
their poop, as looseness of the bowels could bring about matted plumes as well
as obstructed cloaca.
Lastly, it is very
important to keep an eye out for social problems, such as the
smallest chick obtaining picked
on. Empty nest syndrome So your
chicks are now completely feathery
and also its time for them to leave the
safety of your house
and also move outside into a cage. Take a look at our
part on chicken cages to read more
concerning coops as well as
proper cage habitats.
