Bantams typically weigh less than 2 pounds when full grown. Just like ordering anything online there are pros and cons to ordering baby chicks online. Pros of buying baby chicks in Verona Kentucky * Big Selection - If you are wanting a large variety of different chicken breeds and egg colors, you will find the best selection at an online hatchery. * Both Bantams and full sized chickens available * You get to choose what sex you want. Baby Chicks Habitat in Verona, Kentucky

Quantity - you must order a certain number of chicks. Typically hatcheries will require you buy a minimum of 25 chicks at a time. The number is necessary for the chicks survival during shipping. All 25 chicks are put in one small box without heat. They are crowded in the box and produce enough body heat to arrive in good shape. * The wait - If you choose to buy chicks from a feed store you will have them the same day but if you choose to go with a hatchery you have to wait until they are ready to ship and then wait for the chicks to arrive. Ordering baby chicks online in Verona Kentucky is easy and has always been a very pleasant experience of me. It can be a little frustrating waiting for the chicks but it's so worth the wait. When the post office calls and you hear all those little "cheeps" or "chirps" in the background you'll know the wait was worth it! How to Care for your new baby chickens in Verona, Kentucky Baby chicks are quite adorable as well as difficult to resist, but it's finest to plan for their arrival prior to you get them. Prepare first by compiling not only the right materials, however additionally the proper expertise to care for them. Raising baby chicks is fairly straightforward, you simply should offer them with the following: A tidy as well as warm and comfortable habitat A lot of food and also water Interest and love Habitat Your habitat could be a basic box, aquarium, pet cat provider, or guinea porker cage. Line it with old towels as well as blankets (with no loosened strings!) to start, as well as after a few weeks utilize straw over paper. Keep in mind: Avoid utilizing only newspaper or various other slipper surface areas-- or your chicks legs could expand misshapen. You additionally need something to dish out food and water in, such as a chicken feeder and water recipe from the feed shop, or a pickle container cover for food and also a pet dog bird water dispenser from a pet shop. Additionally, as the chicks get older you could introduce a perch right into the environment to get them trained on perching. Heat To keep your chicks heat you need to give them with a warmth resource. This could be as basic as a 100 watt light bulb in a reflective clamp style lamp from a hardware shop, or an infrared reptile warmth light bulb also work very well (my referral). Chicks require this heat 24/7 till their downy fluff is changed with feathers (which can occupy to 2 months). The recently hatched need a temperature in between 90 and also 100 degrees, and weekly this can be decreased by approximately 5 levels or so. The heat source need to get on just one side of the cage to permit chicks a range of temperature levels. The chicks are your ideal thermostat- if they are concealing in the contrary corner of your warmth light, you have to lower the temperature. If they are smothering each various other under the warmth (not merely curling up), you need to put some warmth. House cleaning Cleanliness is essential and it maintains your chicks healthy and balanced. Make certain to alter the bedding typically as well as consistently offer clean food as well as water Food and water. Chicks expand extremely fast which needs a lot of tidy food as well as water. Give enough in any way times as well as examine frequently to stop thirsty and starving chicks. Chick food is various compared to grown-up chicken food, as well as it comes in both medicated as well as non-medicated ranges. Feed chick food for the first 2 months, then change to a grower food (~ 17 % protein) for another 2 months, and then to a slightly lower protein feed or a layer feed (if you have layers). Dirt Some chicks prefer to get a head start on taking dust bathrooms, while others won't use up that task up until they are older. If you have the space in your chick room, introduce a tray of sand or filth for them to wash in. Interest and love There are a couple of advantages to hanging out with your chicks. First of all, they will certainly most likely bond with you and also not escape as adults. Second, if you analyze your chicks daily as well as watch their behavior, you could capture disease or various other problems earlier. Watch out for wheezing, limping, or other harmful indicators. Make sure to also look at their poop, as diarrhea can result in matted plumes as well as blocked cloaca. Lastly, it is important to watch out for social problems, such as the smallest chick obtaining badgered. Empty nest syndrome So your chicks are now fully feathery and also its time for them to leave the safety of your house as well as relocate outside right into a coop. Take a look at our section on chicken cages to read more concerning cages and appropriate cage environments.
