New Baby Chicks Have Arrived

I just had to share some pictures of our newest babies.  They are black sexlinks and one golden sexlink.  They are sooo cute.  We just got them yesterday, but they are 10 days old.  Since it has done nothing but rain, 2.75 inches between yesterday and today, they are safe and dry in the garage.  When everything dries out they will go to the outdoor brooder.

I’ll post more pictures as time goes.

Bantams typically weigh less than 2 pounds when full grown. Just like ordering anything online there are pros and cons to ordering baby chicks online. Pros of buying baby chicks in Cutler Illinois * Big Selection - If you are wanting a large variety of different chicken breeds and egg colors, you will find the best selection at an online hatchery. * Both Bantams and full sized chickens available * You get to choose what sex you want. Quantity - you must order a certain number of chicks. Typically hatcheries will require you buy a minimum of 25 chicks at a time. The number is necessary for the chicks survival during shipping. All 25 chicks are put in one small box without heat. They are crowded in the box and produce enough body heat to arrive in good shape. * The wait - If you choose to buy chicks from a feed store you will have them the same day but if you choose to go with a hatchery you have to wait until they are ready to ship and then wait for the chicks to arrive. Ordering baby chicks online in Cutler Illinois is easy and has always been a very pleasant experience of me. It can be a little frustrating waiting for the chicks but it's so worth the wait. When the post office calls and you hear all those little "cheeps" or "chirps" in the background you'll know the wait was worth it! How to Care for your new baby chickens in Cutler, Illinois Baby chicks are really cute and tough to withstand, but it's best to plan for their arrival before you obtain them. Prepare initially by compiling not just the right products, but likewise the appropriate understanding to care for them. Raising baby chicks is reasonably easy, you just should provide them with the following: A clean as well as warm and comfortable environment Plenty of food as well as water Interest and also love Environment Your environment could be an easy box, aquarium, cat service provider, or guinea pig cage. Line it with old towels and also coverings (without any loosened strings!) to begin, and also after a couple of weeks use straw over newspaper. Note: Avoid making use of only newspaper or other slipper surface areas-- or your chicks legs can grow malformed. You also need something to serve up food and water in, such as a chicken feeder and also water recipe from the feed shop, or a pickle jar lid for food and a pet dog bird water dispenser from a pet dog shop. Also, as the chicks grow older you can introduce a perch into the habitat to get them educated on perching. Heat To maintain your chicks warm you have to give them with a heat source. This can be as basic as a 100 watt light bulb in a reflective clamp style light from an equipment store, or an infrared reptile heat light bulb likewise work effectively (my suggestion). Chicks need this heat 24/7 until their downy fluff is replaced with feathers (which could use up to two months). The recently hatched out need a temperature level between 90 as well as 100 levels, and each week this can be decreased by around 5 levels approximately. The warmth resource must be on simply one side of the cage to allow chicks a range of temperatures. The chicks are your ideal thermometer- if they are concealing in the other edge of your warmth lamp, you have to decrease the temperature. If they are surrounding each various other under the heat (not just snuggling), you have to put some warmth. Home cleaning Cleanliness is key and it keeps your chicks healthy. Make sure to alter the bedding typically and also constantly provide clean food and water Food as well as water. Chicks grow extremely quickly which requires plenty of clean food as well as water. Give enough in any way times and inspect usually to avoid dehydrated and hungry chicks. Chick food is different compared to adult chicken food, and also it is available in both medicated as well as non-medicated selections. Feed chick food for the initial two months, after that switch over to a raiser food (~ 17 % protein) for an additional 2 months, and then to a slightly lower protein feed or a layer feed (if you have levels). Soil Some chicks want to obtain a running start on taking dirt bathrooms, while others won't take up that task up until they are older. If you have the room in your chick enclosure, present a tray of sand or dirt for them to shower in. Attention and love There are a few benefits to hanging out with your chicks. First of all, they will certainly more than likely bond with you as well as not flee as grownups. Second, if you analyze your chicks daily and view their actions, you can capture disease or other problems previously. Keep an eye out for wheezing, limping, or other harmful signs. Make certain to also check out their poop, as diarrhea can cause matted feathers as well as clogged up cloaca. Finally, it is necessary to watch out for social issues, such as the tiniest chick obtaining picked on. Empty nest syndrome So your chicks are now completely feathery and its time for them to leave the safety of your home and relocate outside into a coop. Take a look at our part on chicken coops to read more regarding cages and also correct cage habitats.
