On Saturday, we butchered 35 meat chickens in 3 1/2  hours!! It was a lot of fun…but a little cold.    Daddy took care of the heads, wings and legs. Jessie, Lyssa and Annie skinned them and Suzanna and Cassie gutted them. At the end we all cut up the pieces and bagged them. Bekah and Charissa were our photographers!!    Here are a few pictures…

Quantity - you must order a certain number of chicks. Typically hatcheries will require you buy a minimum of 25 chicks at a time. The number is necessary for the chicks survival during shipping. All 25 chicks are put in one small box without heat. They are crowded in the box and produce enough body heat to arrive in good shape. * The wait - If you choose to buy chicks from a feed store you will have them the same day but if you choose to go with a hatchery you have to wait until they are ready to ship and then wait for the chicks to arrive. Ordering baby chicks online in Clarkia Idaho is easy and has always been a very pleasant experience of me. It can be a little frustrating waiting for the chicks but it's so worth the wait. When the post office calls and you hear all those little "cheeps" or "chirps" in the background you'll know the wait was worth it! How to Care for your new baby chickens in Clarkia, Idaho Baby chicks are quite charming and hard to resist, however it's ideal to prepare for their arrival before you get them. Prepare initially by compiling not just the correct products, yet also the correct expertise to look after them. Raising baby chicks is reasonably simple, you simply need to provide them with the following: A tidy and also warm and comfortable environment Lots of food and also water Interest as well as love Habitat Your habitat could be a straightforward box, fish tank, cat provider, or guinea porker cage. Line it with old towels and blankets (without loosened strings!) to start, and also after a few weeks make use of straw over newspaper. Keep in mind: Avoid making use of just paper or other sandal surfaces-- or your chicks legs could expand malformed. You likewise require something to provide food as well as water in, such as a chicken feeder and also water recipe from the feed shop, or a pickle container cover for food as well as an animal bird water dispenser from a pet dog store. Also, as the chicks get older you can present a perch right into the habitat to obtain them trained on setting down. Warmth To keep your chicks heat you have to provide them with a heat source. This can be as basic as a 100 watt light bulb in a reflective clamp design lamp from an equipment store, or an infrared reptile warmth light bulb also work extremely well (my referral). Chicks require this warmth 24/7 till their downy fluff is replaced with feathers (which could take up to 2 months). The freshly hatched out need a temperature in between 90 as well as 100 levels, as well as every week this can be minimized by about 5 levels or so. The warmth resource ought to be on merely one side of the cage to enable chicks a range of temperature levels. The chicks are your best thermometer- if they are concealing in the contrary edge of your warmth light, you need to lower the temperature. If they are smothering each various other under the warmth (not simply snuggling), you need to add some heat. House cleaning Cleanliness is key and also it keeps your chicks healthy. Be sure to alter the bed linens typically and constantly supply clean food and also water Food and also water. Chicks expand very quick which needs a lot of tidy food and water. Supply enough in any way times as well as inspect frequently to stop parched and starving chicks. Chick food is various compared to adult chicken food, as well as it can be found in both medicated as well as non-medicated varieties. Feed chick food for the initial two months, after that switch over to a grower food (~ 17 % healthy protein) for an additional 2 months, then to a slightly reduced protein feed or a layer feed (if you have levels). Soil Some chicks prefer to obtain a running start on taking dirt baths, while others won't use up that task up until they are older. If you have the room in your chick room, present a tray of sand or filth for them to shower in. Attention and also love There are a couple of benefits to spending quality time with your chicks. To start with, they will certainly more than likely bond with you and also not escape as grownups. Second, if you analyze your chicks daily and enjoy their actions, you could capture disease or other problems previously. Watch out for wheezing, hopping, or various other undesirable indicators. Be sure to likewise look at their poop, as diarrhea could result in matted feathers and blocked cloaca. Lastly, it is important to watch out for social problems, such as the smallest chick obtaining picked on. Empty nest disorder So your chicks are currently fully feathery as well as its time for them to leave the security of your home and move outside into a coop. Look into our section on chicken coops to find out more about coops and also proper coop environments.
