On Saturday, we butchered 35 meat chickens in 3 1/2  hours!! It was a lot of fun…but a little cold.    Daddy took care of the heads, wings and legs. Jessie, Lyssa and Annie skinned them and Suzanna and Cassie gutted them. At the end we all cut up the pieces and bagged them. Bekah and Charissa were our photographers!!    Here are a few pictures…

GATypically hatcheries online offer both standard breeds and bantams. Bantams are fun hardy little chickens, they lay tiny eggs that kids especially love collecting. Bantams typically weigh less than 2 pounds when full grown. Just like ordering anything online there are pros and cons to ordering baby chicks online. Pros of buying baby chicks in Rincon Georgia * Big Selection - If you are wanting a large variety of different chicken breeds and egg colors, you will find the best selection at an online hatchery. * Both Bantams and full sized chickens available * You get to choose what sex you want. If you want a mixture of both male and female then choosing a "straight run" will save you money and you will get a mixture of male and female chicks. You can also choose all males or all females too. * Weekly specials. Hatcheries have sales on chicks, you are likely to get a good deal if you are flexible with the breeds you are wanting. Cons of buying baby chicks in Rincon Georgia * Order early to get the best selection. Certain breeds sell out fast, sometimes as early as 6 months in advance of shipping! If you are wanting a certain breed it's best to order your chicks in the fall before their orders sell out.

Quantity - you must order a certain number of chicks. Typically hatcheries will require you buy a minimum of 25 chicks at a time. The number is necessary for the chicks survival during shipping. All 25 chicks are put in one small box without heat. They are crowded in the box and produce enough body heat to arrive in good shape. * The wait - If you choose to buy chicks from a feed store you will have them the same day but if you choose to go with a hatchery you have to wait until they are ready to ship and then wait for the chicks to arrive. Ordering baby chicks online in Rincon Georgia is easy and has always been a very pleasant experience of me. It can be a little frustrating waiting for the chicks but it's so worth the wait. When the post office calls and you hear all those little "cheeps" or "chirps" in the background you'll know the wait was worth it! How to Care for your new baby chickens in Rincon, Georgia Baby chicks are very cute as well as challenging to resist, yet it's ideal to prepare for their arrival before you get them. Prepare first by collecting not only the appropriate materials, but likewise the proper knowledge to look after them. Raising baby chicks is reasonably basic, you just need to give them with the following: A clean as well as warm and comfortable habitat Lots of food and also water Focus and also love Environment Your environment can be a basic box, fish tank, cat provider, or guinea pig cage. Line it with old towels and also coverings (without any loosened strings!) to start, as well as after a few weeks utilize straw over paper. Keep in mind: Avoid using only newspaper or other slipper surface areas-- or your chicks legs could expand malformed. You also require something to provide food as well as water in, such as a chicken feeder as well as water recipe from the feed shop, or a pickle container cover for food as well as a pet bird water dispenser from an animal store. Additionally, as the chicks grow older you can present a perch into the environment to get them trained on perching. Heat To maintain your chicks warm you need to provide them with a warmth resource. This can be as basic as a 100 watt light bulb in a reflective clamp style light from a hardware shop, or an infrared reptile heat bulb likewise work very well (my referral). Chicks need this heat 24/7 till their downy fluff is changed with feathers (which can use up to two months). The newly hatched out need a temperature in between 90 and 100 levels, and each week this could be reduced by roughly 5 degrees approximately. The warmth source should get on simply one side of the cage to enable chicks an array of temperatures. The chicks are your finest thermostat- if they are hiding in the opposite edge of your warmth lamp, you need to lower the temperature. If they are smothering each various other under the heat (not merely snuggling), you need to put some heat. House cleaning Cleanliness is vital and it keeps your chicks healthy. Make certain to alter the bed linens typically as well as constantly provide tidy food and water Food as well as water. Chicks expand quite quick which needs lots of tidy food and also water. Provide sufficient whatsoever times and also examine commonly to stop thirsty as well as hungry chicks. Chick food is different than grown-up chicken food, and it is available in both medicated and non-medicated ranges. Feed chick food for the first two months, then change to a raiser food (~ 17 % healthy protein) for an additional 2 months, and then to a slightly reduced healthy protein feed or a layer feed (if you have layers). Dirt Some chicks prefer to obtain a running start on taking dust bathrooms, while others will not take up that task till they are older. If you have the area in your chick room, present a tray of sand or dust for them to bathe in. Focus and love There are a couple of benefits to spending quality time with your chicks. First of all, they will more than likely bond with you and not escape as grownups. Second, if you analyze your chicks daily as well as enjoy their habits, you can capture illness or other issues previously. Keep an eye out for wheezing, hopping, or other unhealthy indications. Make sure to additionally check out their poop, as diarrhea could bring about matted feathers as well as stopped up cloaca. Last but not least, it is very important to look out for social problems, such as the littlest chick getting picked on. Vacant nest syndrome So your chicks are currently fully feathery and also its time for them to leave the safety of your house as well as move outside into a cage. Have a look at our section on chicken cages to find out more about coops and proper coop environments.
