On Saturday, we butchered 35 meat chickens in 3 1/2  hours!! It was a lot of fun…but a little cold.    Daddy took care of the heads, wings and legs. Jessie, Lyssa and Annie skinned them and Suzanna and Cassie gutted them. At the end we all cut up the pieces and bagged them. Bekah and Charissa were our photographers!!    Here are a few pictures…

GATypically hatcheries online offer both standard breeds and bantams. Bantams are fun hardy little chickens, they lay tiny eggs that kids especially love collecting. Bantams typically weigh less than 2 pounds when full grown. Just like ordering anything online there are pros and cons to ordering baby chicks online. Pros of buying baby chicks in Demorest Georgia * Big Selection - If you are wanting a large variety of different chicken breeds and egg colors, you will find the best selection at an online hatchery. * Both Bantams and full sized chickens available * You get to choose what sex you want. Quantity - you must order a certain number of chicks. Typically hatcheries will require you buy a minimum of 25 chicks at a time. The number is necessary for the chicks survival during shipping. All 25 chicks are put in one small box without heat. They are crowded in the box and produce enough body heat to arrive in good shape. * The wait - If you choose to buy chicks from a feed store you will have them the same day but if you choose to go with a hatchery you have to wait until they are ready to ship and then wait for the chicks to arrive. Ordering baby chicks online in Demorest Georgia is easy and has always been a very pleasant experience of me. It can be a little frustrating waiting for the chicks but it's so worth the wait. When the post office calls and you hear all those little "cheeps" or "chirps" in the background you'll know the wait was worth it! How to Care for your new baby chickens in Demorest, Georgia Baby chicks are quite charming and also tough to withstand, yet it's ideal to prepare for their arrival prior to you obtain them. Prepare first by collecting not just the correct materials, but additionally the correct understanding to care for them. Raising baby chicks is reasonably straightforward, you merely should supply them with the following: A tidy as well as warm and comfortable habitat Lots of food as well as water Interest as well as love Habitat Your habitat could be a straightforward box, aquarium, cat carrier, or guinea pig cage. Line it with old towels and also coverings (without loosened strings!) to start, as well as after a few weeks utilize straw over newspaper. Keep in mind: Avoid making use of just paper or various other slipper surfaces-- or your chicks legs can grow malformed. You also require something to dish out food as well as water in, such as a chicken feeder and also water recipe from the feed store, or a pickle jar cover for food and a pet dog bird water dispenser from a pet store. Also, as the chicks age you can present a perch into the environment to obtain them trained on perching. Heat To keep your chicks warm you should give them with a warmth resource. This could be as straightforward as a 100 watt light bulb in a reflective clamp design light from an equipment shop, or an infrared reptile heat bulb also function very well (my referral). Chicks require this heat 24/7 up until their downy fluff is replaced with plumes (which could use up to two months). The recently hatched out require a temperature between 90 and also 100 degrees, and also each week this could be minimized by roughly 5 levels approximately. The warmth resource ought to get on just one side of the cage to enable chicks a range of temperatures. The chicks are your best thermostat- if they are concealing in the opposite edge of your heat lamp, you should lower the temperature level. If they are surrounding each various other under the warmth (not simply snuggling), you have to include some warmth. Housekeeping Tidiness is vital and it maintains your chicks healthy and balanced. Be sure to transform the bed linen typically as well as consistently supply clean food and water Food as well as water. Chicks grow very quick which calls for lots of tidy food and also water. Give enough in any way times and examine frequently to stop thirsty as well as hungry chicks. Chick food is different compared to grown-up chicken food, as well as it comes in both medicated as well as non-medicated ranges. Feed chick food for the very first two months, then change to a raiser food (~ 17 % healthy protein) for one more 2 months, then to a somewhat reduced healthy protein feed or a level feed (if you have layers). Dirt Some chicks want to get a head start on taking dust baths, while others will not use up that activity up until they are older. If you have the area in your chick enclosure, introduce a tray of sand or dust for them to wash in. Interest as well as love There are a couple of benefits to spending quality time with your chicks. First off, they will certainly most likely bond with you as well as not run away as grownups. Second, if you examine your chicks daily as well as enjoy their habits, you could capture ailment or various other issues earlier. Keep an eye out for wheezing, limping, or other unhealthy signs. Be sure to likewise take a look at their poop, as diarrhea could result in matted feathers as well as clogged up cloaca. Last but not least, it is important to watch out for social concerns, such as the tiniest chick getting badgered. Vacant nest syndrome So your chicks are currently completely feathery and also its time for them to leave the security of your home as well as move outside into a cage. Look into our section on chicken cages to learn more about coops and appropriate cage habitats.
