On Saturday, we butchered 35 meat chickens in 3 1/2  hours!! It was a lot of fun…but a little cold.    Daddy took care of the heads, wings and legs. Jessie, Lyssa and Annie skinned them and Suzanna and Cassie gutted them. At the end we all cut up the pieces and bagged them. Bekah and Charissa were our photographers!!    Here are a few pictures…

FLTypically hatcheries online offer both standard breeds and bantams. Bantams are fun hardy little chickens, they lay tiny eggs that kids especially love collecting. Bantams typically weigh less than 2 pounds when full grown. Just like ordering anything online there are pros and cons to ordering baby chicks online. Pros of buying baby chicks in Palmdale Florida * Big Selection - If you are wanting a large variety of different chicken breeds and egg colors, you will find the best selection at an online hatchery. * Both Bantams and full sized chickens available * You get to choose what sex you want. Quantity - you must order a certain number of chicks. Typically hatcheries will require you buy a minimum of 25 chicks at a time. The number is necessary for the chicks survival during shipping. All 25 chicks are put in one small box without heat. They are crowded in the box and produce enough body heat to arrive in good shape. * The wait - If you choose to buy chicks from a feed store you will have them the same day but if you choose to go with a hatchery you have to wait until they are ready to ship and then wait for the chicks to arrive. Ordering baby chicks online in Palmdale Florida is easy and has always been a very pleasant experience of me. It can be a little frustrating waiting for the chicks but it's so worth the wait. When the post office calls and you hear all those little "cheeps" or "chirps" in the background you'll know the wait was worth it! How to Care for your new baby chickens in Palmdale, Florida Baby chicks are really charming and also challenging to resist, however it's finest to prepare for their arrival prior to you get them. Prepare initially by compiling not just the appropriate materials, however additionally the correct knowledge to look after them. Raising baby chicks is reasonably easy, you just should provide them with the following: A tidy and also warm environment A lot of food as well as water Interest as well as love Habitat Your habitat could be an easy box, aquarium, pet cat service provider, or guinea pig cage. Line it with old towels and coverings (without loose strings!) to begin, and after a couple of weeks use straw over newspaper. Keep in mind: Avoid using only newspaper or other slipper surfaces-- or your chicks legs can grow malformed. You likewise require something to provide food and also water in, such as a chicken feeder as well as water recipe from the feed shop, or a pickle jar lid for food as well as a pet dog bird water dispenser from a pet dog shop. Likewise, as the chicks get older you could present a perch into the habitat to get them trained on setting down. Warmth To maintain your chicks warm you should supply them with a heat resource. This could be as straightforward as a 100 watt light bulb in a reflective clamp design light from an equipment shop, or an infrared reptile warmth bulb also work extremely well (my referral). Chicks need this heat 24/7 till their downy fluff is changed with feathers (which can use up to 2 months). The freshly hatched need a temperature in between 90 as well as 100 levels, and each week this can be reduced by about 5 degrees approximately. The heat resource ought to get on just one side of the cage to permit chicks an array of temperatures. The chicks are your best thermometer- if they are hiding in the other edge of your heat light, you need to minimize the temperature level. If they are surrounding each other under the warmth (not just cuddling), you need to add some warmth. House cleaning Sanitation is key and it keeps your chicks healthy. Be sure to alter the bedding typically as well as always give clean food and also water Food as well as water. Chicks grow very quickly which needs lots of tidy food as well as water. Provide sufficient in any way times as well as check frequently to stop parched and hungry chicks. Chick food is various compared to adult chicken food, and it is available in both medicated and also non-medicated varieties. Feed chick food for the first two months, then switch to a raiser food (~ 17 % healthy protein) for one more 2 months, and after that to a slightly reduced healthy protein feed or a level feed (if you have layers). Soil Some chicks like to get a running start on taking filth bathrooms, while others won't occupy that task until they are older. If you have the space in your chick unit, present a tray of sand or filth for them to shower in. Attention and love There are a couple of benefits to hanging out with your chicks. First of all, they will more than likely bond with you and also not run away as adults. Second, if you examine your chicks daily and also see their habits, you could capture health problem or various other problems previously. Keep an eye out for wheezing, limping, or other unhealthy signs. Be sure to also check out their poop, as diarrhea could bring about matted feathers and obstructed cloaca. Lastly, it is important to watch out for social concerns, such as the littlest chick obtaining teased. Vacant nest syndrome So your chicks are currently completely feathery and its time for them to leave the safety and security of your house as well as move outside right into a cage. Check out our section on chicken coops to get more information concerning cages and appropriate coop environments.
