why ‘doing all the things’ may not be moving you forward after all

I love doing things.

As an ENFP, self-starter, creative, workaholic type, I have a reputation for wanting to get sh*t done. I like to do things. I like to cross things off. I want to “be productive” and successful and all the great things in life. After all, we live in a society that celebrates this sort of behavior.

However, recently I’ve had a sort of epiphany; I’m beginning to realize that maybe this go-go-go mentality isn’t the best for productivity, and that “doing all the things” may not be moving me forward after all. In fact, perhaps it’s quite the opposite.

I recently saw a quote on instagram, which immediately become the background of my phone:

“Do less with more focus.”

Let that soak in for a moment.

Powerful stuff, huh? What if the notion that we need to do more, be more, get more done is actually working against us? What if less really is more? That you can actually do less things with more focus (that’s the key word!) and still be winning?

Those five words were an huge wakeup call. I realized in my efforts to be the best me and get it all done, I was actually losing the number one thing that keeps me going — my focus. All the assignments, last-minute deadlines, late-nights checking off the to-do lists, and “yes, sure I can’s!” were actually moving me backward, and in turn eating away at my focus. You see, the more I took on, the less focus and productive I became.

So what does “Do less with more focus” really mean, anyway?

First of all, it sure doesn’t make you lazy. It makes you smart. It means saying the no to the things that aren’t serving you, strategically prioritizing your time (that includes time for you!), being realistic about what can get done, and thinking about the bigger picture. It’s not checking 50 things off your to-do list, over-scheduling yourself (guilty as charged!) and hustling for the sake of hustling. It’s being bull’s eye focused vs. burning out. Because really, who wants to burn out?

As spring approaches (and one of the busiest years of my life I’ve had yet!) I’m going to work on taking less in, while letting my focus drive me forward. After all, I can’t get sh*t done, if I don’t have the time focus to let my creative juices flow. That’s my secret sauce, baby! I encourage you all to think about where in your life you lose focus by trying to do all the things. What does “do less with more focus” look like to you?

xoxo,

Rachel

This is so on point, I don’t even know what to say!! I so needed this and it is SUCH a good reminder – doing ALL THE THINGS isn’t always BETTER!! I am such a do do doer and sometimes to my own detriment. Needed the reminder and if that isn’t the perfect quote, I don’t know what is! xoxo (and um, we REALLY need to get our meetup back on the calendar!)

How to Care for your new baby chickens in Hamilton, Colorado Baby chicks are extremely adorable and challenging to stand up to, yet it's finest to plan for their arrival before you get them. Prepare initially by gathering not just the appropriate products, but additionally the correct understanding to take care of them. Raising baby chicks is fairly straightforward, you merely should provide them with the following: A tidy and also cozy environment Lots of food and water Interest and love Habitat Your habitat can be a basic box, aquarium, pet cat carrier, or guinea porker cage. Line it with old towels and blankets (without loose strings!) to start, and after a couple of weeks utilize straw over newspaper. Keep in mind: Avoid utilizing just newspaper or other slipper surfaces-- or your chicks legs could grow misshapen. You likewise require something to serve up food and also water in, such as a chicken feeder and water recipe from the feed store, or a pickle jar cover for food and also a pet dog bird water dispenser from a pet store. Likewise, as the chicks age you can introduce a perch right into the environment to get them trained on setting down. Heat To keep your chicks heat you need to give them with a warmth source. This could be as easy as a 100 watt light bulb in a reflective clamp style lamp from an equipment store, or an infrared reptile heat light bulb likewise work very well (my suggestion). Chicks need this warmth 24/7 till their downy fluff is replaced with feathers (which can use up to two months). The recently hatched out need a temperature in between 90 and 100 degrees, as well as weekly this could be decreased by approximately 5 levels or so. The heat resource need to be on simply one side of the cage to permit chicks a variety of temperatures. The chicks are your ideal thermometer- if they are hiding in the opposite edge of your warmth light, you have to decrease the temperature level. If they are smothering each various other under the heat (not just curling up), you need to put some warmth. Housekeeping Tidiness is essential and it maintains your chicks healthy and balanced. Make certain to transform the bedding frequently as well as always offer tidy food and water Food and also water. Chicks expand quite quick which requires plenty of tidy food and also water. Provide enough whatsoever times and inspect typically to prevent thirsty and also starving chicks. Chick food is various than adult chicken food, and also it is available in both medicated and also non-medicated varieties. Feed chick food for the initial two months, then switch over to a raiser food (~ 17 % protein) for an additional 2 months, and afterwards to a somewhat lower protein feed or a layer feed (if you have layers). Soil Some chicks like to obtain a head start on taking filth baths, while others will not use up that task until they are older. If you have the area in your chick unit, introduce a tray of sand or dirt for them to shower in. Interest and also love There are a few advantages to hanging out with your chicks. First off, they will more than likely bond with you as well as not escape as adults. Second, if you analyze your chicks daily and enjoy their actions, you could catch health problem or other problems previously. Keep an eye out for wheezing, limping, or other harmful indicators. Make certain to likewise consider their poop, as looseness of the bowels could cause matted feathers and also clogged up cloaca. Finally, it is very important to watch out for social problems, such as the tiniest chick getting teased. Vacant nest disorder So your chicks are now totally feathered as well as its time for them to leave the security of your home and relocate outside into a coop.
