The chickens are eating out of my hand!!!!

Baby steps here.  These chickens need to learn that I am a friendly caring benefactor, and not a scary creepygrabber.  And pretty much the only way into the heart of a chicken is through their stomach.  I’ve started going out to check on them every morning and evening, and giving them treats of some sort, usually a handful of cracked corn.  Over the course of the last several days, they have realized that when I come out to see them, they will be getting treats, and they respond accordingly.  They now walk up to the door of the enclosure and talk at me in quiet little honks.  I have slowly been broadcasting the corn for them closer and closer to myself, and finally yesterday they started eating out of my hand.  I’m aware that I am reaching facebook parent level obsession, but I’m not forcing you to watch the video.  But you know, you can if you want to!

How to Care for your new baby chickens in Bridgeville, California Baby chicks are really adorable and difficult to stand up to, yet it's ideal to prepare for their arrival prior to you get them. Prepare first by gathering not only the right materials, yet additionally the correct knowledge to take care of them. Raising baby chicks is fairly basic, you merely have to supply them with the following: A clean and warm and comfortable environment Lots of food as well as water Interest and love Environment Your habitat can be an easy box, fish tank, pet cat service provider, or guinea porker cage. Line it with old towels and also blankets (with no loosened strings!) to start, and after a couple of weeks use straw over paper. Note: Avoid utilizing only newspaper or various other sandal surface areas-- or your chicks legs could grow malformed. You also need something to serve up food and water in, such as a chicken feeder as well as water meal from the feed shop, or a pickle container lid for food as well as a pet bird water dispenser from an animal shop. Likewise, as the chicks grow older you could introduce a perch right into the habitat to obtain them trained on perching. Warmth To maintain your chicks heat you have to supply them with a warmth resource. This can be as basic as a 100 watt light bulb in a reflective clamp style light from an equipment store, or an infrared reptile warmth light bulb likewise function effectively (my referral). Chicks need this warmth 24/7 till their downy fluff is changed with plumes (which could take up to two months). The newly hatched out need a temperature in between 90 as well as 100 degrees, and also every week this can be reduced by about 5 levels approximately. The heat resource need to be on just one side of the cage to permit chicks an array of temperatures. The chicks are your finest thermostat- if they are hiding in the contrary edge of your heat lamp, you need to reduce the temperature. If they are smothering each various other under the heat (not merely curling up), you have to add some warmth. Housekeeping Tidiness is key and also it maintains your chicks healthy and balanced. Be sure to change the bedding commonly and consistently offer tidy food and also water Food as well as water. Chicks grow really quick which requires lots of clean food and water. Supply enough at all times as well as examine often to avoid dehydrated and hungry chicks. Chick food is various than adult chicken food, and it is available in both medicated and non-medicated varieties. Feed chick food for the first 2 months, after that change to a grower food (~ 17 % healthy protein) for one more 2 months, then to a somewhat reduced protein feed or a layer feed (if you have levels). Soil Some chicks like to get a running start on taking filth bathrooms, while others won't take up that task up until they are older. If you have the space in your chick enclosure, introduce a tray of sand or filth for them to shower in. Interest as well as love There are a couple of advantages to spending time with your chicks. First of all, they will probably bond with you as well as not run away as adults. Second, if you analyze your chicks daily as well as view their actions, you can catch ailment or various other issues earlier. Keep an eye out for hissing, hopping, or various other harmful indications. Be sure to also take a look at their poop, as diarrhea can lead to matted feathers and blocked cloaca.
